UPDATED: MAY 15, 2023 Bottled. Black colour with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is smoked, some roasted and nutty malts with mild herbal tones. Flavour is smoked, some roasted tones, mild caramel as well as some bitterness to it. Strong CDA. A bit messy for me, not liking roast and a bunch of hops in one. The smoke gives it an interesting dimension though.

Bottled, thanks Bov! Murky very dark brown, huge lightly gushing head. Aroma of tar and grapefruit. Mid sweet with full body and dense, spritzy mouthfeel. Tar and smokey licorice. Resinous bitter finish. Packed with flavours, but a little all over the place.

Dark color, near black, with brown large head; the carbonation is better under control here. Very nice aroma of dark malts and bread, with delicate smoke, cream. Good body strength, with lean mouthfeel; strong flavor of roasted malts and smoked malt, with a touch of dark chocolate; the absence of liquorice is appreciated; basically dry; very strong bitterness, with hop resins in the background. Roastiness without excess.
Elegant, powerful, balanced; excellent.

courtesy of Tom Strickler - black beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; correct lacing; notes of smoke in the front, followed by cocoa and fruity hops; notes of tea (developping while the beer gets warmer) and yeast too; a solid malt backbone; pretty thick and sticky, a respectable bitterness yet by far not what one could expect from a double IPA; prety dry and with a long smokey and hoppy finish - clean, straightforward and deeply enjoyable ... as usual

The Black Beard is an incredible beer. I wanted to eat the bottle. It’s some kind of combination of a black IPA with some smokiness and then a part in the middle that tastes a little bit like licking bacon. So intriguing and rich somehow without being too heavy. Maybe not for people who don’t like a touch of smokiness, but I love it. I think my whole body went numb while drinking it. Sensational experience.
