COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak
IBU - 75
SRM - 15

Pours clear mahogany with a two finger, tan head. Aroma is molasses, smoke and light spice. Taste is brown sugar and butter, moving to smoke, roast and wood. Finish is peaty. A very interesting strong ale.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2017 Roast, piles of malt, smoke and whiskey. Thin mouthfeel and little to no carbonation.

explosivedog (12849) - New York, New York, USA - APR 24, 2017
330ml bottle. Pours red brown with zero head (and I try). Raisins, dried figs, brandy, hazelnuts, oak, a little touch of smoke at the end, cherry, rum, muscovado sugar (or maybe that jaggery?). Big full body. It’s like a big boozy Christmas pudding. One of those beers that I respect a lot more than I enjoy drinking. Clearly very well put together, just not completely my thing.

Samtzu (2110) - Palmerston North, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 31, 2017
330ml Bottle. Pours a dark brown similar to ginger beer. Huge aroma of caramel, toffee, and sugar. Medium body with a full rich flavour palate. Only a slight hint of alcohol hidden away.

Hoponmate (309) - NEW ZEALAND - JAN 4, 2017
330 ml bottle. A thick and very complex beer. The nose is the only thing that lets it down. Smells a lot like a barley wine. Thick sweet caramel flavors. Continues into a very sweet vanilla taste. The rest is a woody smokiness to finish with a great strong almost sulatan sweet finish. A complex and strong ale that challenges what beer can be.

Bottle, Brewdog Leicester. Dark brown with a thin off white head. Nutty dark toffee. Dusty, gritty cocoa. Spicy. Vanilla. Umani meatiness. Marzipan alcohol. Raisins with nutty, woody notes. Very good.

Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Dym z ogniska, wędzone śliwki i morele, dąb, wanilia, kandyzowane owoce, toffi i fura chmielu. Piękne.

330ml bottle Aroma is Christmas cake with caramel, spice and hint of oak. Poured hazy brown with slight head. The taste is all about the alcohol. The initial bitterness is followed by the smooth alcoholic finish and cloying sweetness with a hint of smoky oak barrel. Reminded me of drinking port - one to enjoy after dinner with the cheese board.

cmacklin (4241) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 18, 2016
330ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-orange with a thin, off-white head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, spice and oak. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, brown sugar, spice, oak, booze and a hint of smoke with a dry, bitter, hop resin finish. Medium to full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice, has some complexity to it.

beerplace (8804) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 30, 2016
330ml bottle bought at Value On, tasted at Jamey’s. Aroma is jaggery, caramel, oak, vanilla, candied fruits, some saddle notes. Taste is toffee, hoppy bitter, vanilla, caramel, smokey notes. Barrels, toffee, hoppy, roasted malt, slightly buttery aftertatse. Perfect!
