Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

Cloudy orange body with a foamy beige head. Aroma is very barleywine like. Flavor is loads of sweet carmel malts followed up with a hop kick in the finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Pours orange with a thin head. As I’ve found with many higher ABV GI beers, this one is pretty sweet in flavor. Alcohol is detected but not overwhelming. A solid IIPA, but in my opinion not 93rd percentile.

Pours an amber color with thin white head that fades quickly. Aroma is pine and citrus (grapefruit) with some malt. Taste is much the same but I feel the malt and hops are somewhat muted for a IIPA. Mouthfeel is a bit thick and oily. This is a very resinous IIPA. Overall I think Tyranena has the better IIPA. Unlike the bourbon county stout, this one is overpriced.

Bottle. Pours a light copper with a moderate off-white head. Tons of lacing. A full floral and pine aroma with an assertive malt presence. Nectar to the nostrils. Especially nicely balaned for IIPA. The strong malty body mingles wonderfully with the bitter sweet hops and the rich fruity character they lend to the beer. Not over poweringly bitter due to this great balance. Mouthfilling, full bodied and smooth with that perfect lingering bitterness that makes you want to drink another.

bottle from my secret santa! huge hops presence, cascade and some other americanized hops (and apparently tettnang, from the description). piney bitterness and a decent malt background - the malt serves no other purpose than to deliver more hops. orange color with low carbonation - very good!

Getting Notebook Online. Bottle, 2007. Pours amber. An alright floral aroma. Good amount of hop taste. Balance is on the edge of being off. A bit of spice in there too. A decent brew, maybe better with age?!

On tap at Wrigleyville Goose Island. Poured a cloudy gold w/ an off-white head. Aroma was dominated by a mixture of hops with some underlying sweet notes. Flavor has a nice combination of hops that brings out a complex flavor. Great beer!

Cloudy dark orange color with a small, thick white head. The aroma was pure pine with some nice sweet caramel tones. The flavor was more floral, tea, and pine...bitter hops aftertaste. The feel was softer than I had expected...small carbonation bubbles gave way to a semi-wet finish.
