Seit April 1991 ist die Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei ein 100% iges Tochterunternehmen der Bitburger Brauerei Th. Simon. An unfortunately disappointing Schwarzbier. I guess I was expecting too much. Still, it has a good aroma and very nice German beer taste.

Pours dark brown to almost black with a nice beige head. Aroma is malt, roasty, somewhat sweet. Light bodied, malty flavors, with some roasted malts as well and faint sweetness. Real easy drinking and enjoyable.

On tap at the Saucer in San Antonio. Pours a dark brown body with mahogany highlights. Nose is toffee, roasty and sweet---"Nice." Flavors of freshly roasted coffee, toffee sweetness, stone fruits and a hint of hops. Active carbonation and a medium mouthfeel. Similar to a doppelbock without the alcohol. Re-buy!

Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Pours dark brown, nearly black with off-white head. Caramel, burnt sugar, malt, milk malted milk balls, maybe a hint of moth balls, too. Tastes sweet. Would have enjoyed a bit more roast or smoke. Not bad.

Bottle: Pours a dark black beer. Head is white to beige foamy and disappears pretty quick. Smell is bit hoppy, and a slight smell of some roasted ingredients and coffee. Taste is bit watery (probably because of the reinheitsgebot), slight bitter, hint of roasted ingredients, bit of coffee and just a bit of sugars. Fine Schwarzbier.

Resembles Coca-cola with a very foamy tan head, which dissipates quickly. Very mild aroma with grass and citrus notes. Mild malty flavor, just a bit sweet. Feels much lighter than it looks. Thin, watery texture, soft carbonation, unremarkable finish. Very drinkable. [500ml bottle, BevMo]

Bouteille et canette. Bière noire translucide. Nez léger on parierait qu’elle n’est pas noire. Bouche légère mais agréable. Classique de Schwartzbier.

pours out clear nicely dark brown producing a sort of dark beige head that was a finger thick and a little bubbly that fell at a medium rate. the body is a really dark amber on the edges with the main body being a really dark brown. the aromas are sweet and malty. it smells like caramel and toffee with lightly burnt sugar and toasted pale malts. it is medium bodied and pretty smooth. i taste the noted aromas and it finishes really clean and a little watery. the aftertaste is light and very plesent. a really enjoyable brew.
