Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Bottle. Pours a copper/ orange colour with a white frothy head. The aroma is mostly piney hops, but i also get some citrus and floral hoppy notes and some caramel and malts. Falvour is dominated by the piney hops, but it also has a fairly strong malty backbone. I also get notes of citrus and green apple and a some what slight alcoholic taste. The beer has a medium body with a nice crisp mouthfeel. A good IPA that is worth checking out, but deffinetly not the best one out there.

2007: Nice light orange. Head is only a pittance. Nice haze in the glass. Very appealing body. Specks of lace are nice. Mild but sweet flowery hops. Hops are not fetishized. Fruity with a nice pale malt/yeast scent. Smells like a pale with extra fruity hops. Very nice fruity/estery hops flavor with a slight bitter finish. A sweet IPA, if that exists. Gets more bitter as it warms up. Leaves a definite film. A bit milky, deceptively so. Has real substance. A light and "quaffable" IPA. Not bitter, not brutal. Sweet hops, real nice.

Pours a mostly clear golden orange color topped by a small off white colored head of foam. The aroma shows some citrus and pine hop bitterness on top of a sweet caramel and bready malt base. The flavor follows with decent hop bitterness pushing its way through the sweet caramel malts. I was hoping for a little more citrus flavor. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a bitter sweet finish. Pretty decent IPA, but far from their other offerings. Really glad to see them get distributed here now.

Finally have Southern Tier in Tallahassee. Welcome. I’ve had the Unearthly a few times but hadn’t tried the ipa. Rating from last 12oz bottle of a six pack. Murky gold pour with a thin off-white head and sparse lacing. Aroma is pine and floral hops with spice and malt. Taste is perfume, soap, citrus bitterness and caramel malts in the background. Finishes with a long lemony and spice bitter. Shares some similarities to the Unearthly that I’m too lazy to figure out -- but doesn’t do it for me the same way that one does.

Poured nice golden color smelled of hops. And citrus tasted of bitter hops. Very good but lacked in the aftertaste

The aroma is quite nice with both malt and a lot of pine and citrus hops. The appearance is light amber gold with a large head for an IPA. The flavor is like the aroma with a very bitter aftertaste. The palate is average for the style. Overall a better than average IPA but a bit too astringent for me.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Slighly cloudy amber body, thin head, pleasant aroma of malt with hops overtones. Fine IPA flavor - good maltiness and nice hoppy finish. My thought buyiing it and trying it was "another generic IPA and ain’t we damn lucky to live in a world where brews like this are common!" I still feel that way - fine brew, not particularly outstanding, but ain’t we damn lucky?
