Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

Dark maroon to black pour with a dirty beige head with a pinkish hue. Smell is very nice. Fresh raspberries, a touch of tartness, and light brown ale like maltiness. Flavor is surprisingly nice. Very lightly tart and sweet fresh raspberry flavor, good rich mouthfeel and maltiness. Brown ale flavor in the finish a touch, and some sweet/tart raspberries in the after taste along with a hint of chocolate. Kind of like a raspberry truffle, but never cloying. Easily my favorite fruit beer, and a new Winter favorite.

Bottle from a recent trade box. Pours a clear dark ruby brown with a large creamy tanned beige head that falls off quickly. Raspberry, a touch of metal, nutty malt, and a hint of wood. Medium bodied, a bit sweet, a touch of old fruit. Finishes with more sweetness and more old raspberry.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber-red with a big foamy off-white head that fades. Fruity aroma, of raspberries, malt, sugar and a bit of tartness. Taste is fruity, starts sharp with malt, yeast, and citrus, then picks up a lot of sweeter berries and sugar. Lingering raspberry juice sweetness. Tasty.

Bottle. Poured brown with medium head. Smeary lacing. Aroma is malt with a raspberry tinge. Pleasing and not a berry bomb. Flaver is mild to sweet, raspberry flavour on malt. Some tang to the finish, with more raspberry.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear, ruby-brown colored body with a finger-width, tannish pink head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Very pretty color. Aroma is definitely a mix of the styles. An even amount of sweet raspberries with just a hint of tartness, some other ripe fruits, chocolate, a very light roast, a brown malty caramel, and a bit of the typical NB biscuit. Flavor is similar with the fruits asking for a little more attention. A smooth, brown malt and caramel up front before the sweet and semi-tart raspberry, ripe fruitiness comes in. A lighter chocolate comes in towards the finish as well as some yeast and just a hint of roast. Finishes with a light, earthy bitterness and a raspberry tartness thats fairly dry with a smooth, fruity, malty aftertaste that lingers for a moderate duration. Medium body, smooth, and a moderate carbonation. Overall, I liked this one. A pretty cool mix of the two styles. Nothing seems too prominent and it drinks like a beer with less than 7% ABV. Good one.

Bottle. Poured a darker amber color with a two finger white head. It left some lacing on the side of the glass as it went. Aroma was fruits, raspberries, grapes, figs, yeast, and malts. Flavor was mild tart, tart raspberries, and other fruits. Medium bodied beer. Decent.

12 oz. bottle from Malt and Vine. Not much of a head on this thing, but this brew is dark. Dark reddish brown appearance. Not a bad looking fruit beer. Extremely pungent rasberry aroma. Malt aroma is there but this rasberry aroma is just too much, almost to the point where it seem overly artificial. I like the fact that it is pungent, but to me, it is in the wrong way. Subtle chocolate malt with a strong rasberry flavor. Very smooth beer. Short-lived flavor i.e. doesn’t linger that much, but still a nice dessert beer. Rasberry flavor dominates. Overall, a decent fruit beer, but I am not a huge fan of th style.
