Flavor is disappointing, especially given the aroma. Nothing complex, very basic. Still good because it’s an impy, but a little tweaking could make this a whole lot better. still solid though.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 17, 2010 Aroma is rich and smoky with an overtone of quality coffee and hints of chocolate and molasses. It pours a dark sepia with a decent, if not too persistent, tan head. Flavor is like a good mocha, mainly good coffee and sweet chocolate with a hint of brown sugar. Texture is tingly and lively with a fairly firm alcohol bite. Definitely recommended. williamherbert (610), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 12, 2010 Oily oak and burnt barley aroma; a nutty accent. Very astringent, lacquer-like. Grainy; does not hid its alcohol. As it warms, more cocoa.
The appearance is deep, rich chocolate brown-black. Big pillow of head slowly shrinks to a finger of slush.
Cocoa powder with a very heavy, roasted malt. Hazelnut and burnt cookies. Milder than the aroma would indicate. Dates and raisins. Smoky at the end too.
The palate is thick, smooth and oily. It’s a strong, challenging sipper. Dark and oily and chock full of alcohol. RHeastings (531), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2010 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours an opaque black color, with a small to moderate tan head. Mild roasted character, along with a touch of alcohol, and a bit of ash to the nose. Carbonation is perfect, for the style. Slightly burnt toffee, ash, roasted notes, black licorice cross the palate. A very slight note of alcohol seems to come across in the finish, and becomes slightly more prevalent as the beer warms. Nonetheless, it adds depth and is pleasing in its character. Overall, an excellent version of the style. joshwilfong (847), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 4, 2010 12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown almost black with a thick tan head. Aroma of burnt sugar, coffee, roasted malt and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is roasty bittersweet chocolate, coffee and a slight alcohol taste. Medium body with mild carbonation and a thin mouth feel. Great aroma and flavor but it almost feels watered down on the palate, still very good. dimenhetfield (320), , Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2010 Nice pour right out of the bottle. Has a distinct aroma of chocolate, barely, and little spice/nutmeg. The color is a smooth silky jet black, with an off white brown foam head. Very smooth with a little bit of a bitter finish. esjaygee (1629), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2010 Pitch black with a medium tan head leaving behind a frothy ring of lace. Aroma of roasted malts, molasses, sweetness akin to lactose, light chocolate and alcohol. Taste of sweet and roasted malts, alcohol and chocolate. Perhaps a bit thin for the style, no real hop presence as it finishes sweet with some warming. BavarianPurity (30), Tempe, Arizona, USA

Let’s
See..........................
Delicately creamy, and yet bewilderingly thick
and massively peculiar, akin to a Scottish-styled high-gravity ale: very fluffy purplish-darkened aptness, and the right amount of froth, I meant just right...
LETS
SMELL .............
wow....Heather....Ericaceae... cloves, maybe? A definite chocolaty presence.

vitriolically creamy, as said like be
fore-- .the right kind of stuff... the warming-sensation from the alcoholic lift certainly doesn’t show itself until after the whole bottle has been emptied down your throat to be absorbed into your bloodstream.

the
feel:
Mouthfeel is delicate and watery, but incredible, to say the least.
There is a slight deranged and almost nauseating bitterness at the wee end, but it’s tolerable seeing how good this one is. I got more of an Herbed/Spice beer than Imperial Stout... yeah, just didn’t taste the stoutness in this one.
