COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Weyerbacher we have created a Winter Ale that is a must for any malty beer lover. Winner of a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is brewed with deep-roasted chocolate malt. The taste predominates with a warm, roasty flavor, balanced out with a slightly dry finish. It is smooth but not cloying, with a warming belt of alcohol (5.6% ABV). Although winter ales predate history, they are believed to have their origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Later, when monasteries produced the local brew, winter ales were made each year to commemorate the birth of Christ. Back then, winter ales were brewed full-bodied as a source of nutrition for the upcoming winter months. Today, winter ales are typified by their seasonality, their rich, malty flavors and by their deep, dark coloration. Generally available November-March, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is the perfect libation for a winter meal, with good friends, or beside a warm fire fending off a cold winter night.

Jabah (2555) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 7, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2019 This is what I prefer my winter ales to be like. On the darker side, not super spicy with some decent malt to it. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor and overall almost an 8, but not quite. Only sampled a single to start, as was on clearance for a buck, but this is something I would seek next winter season.

Pours a dark cola brown with a thin off white ring. Medium carbonation with plenty of lacing. Light malts and some spices in the aroma. Fairly thin body. Taste is light spices with some cinnamon. Flavors aren’t very bold. Not bad, just not that great.

Quite good and thick. Very nice to drink and smells of fine brewed one. Great malty features and cloudiness.

Winter Weyerbacher. Very solid beer. Extremely well balanced, but possibly a tad boring because of it. Hints of cherry in the malt/booze, not too sweet, not too thick. Easy to consume for 7%. 3.6

12 oz. bottle. Pours a rich, dark brown with very little head. Heavy malt on the nose and a thick caramel flavor. Not the best, not the worst. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a fluffy head that dissipates to a thin beige head. Aromas of brown sugar and raisin. Flavors of brown sugar, dark fruits, spice and ginger. Finishes with a bit of breadiness. Creamy mouthfeel. Not bad.

Aroma - sweet malt Appearance - very dark brown body, good nucleation, unfiltered. Huge beige head over 2" and settles very slowly. Taste - sweet caramel malt, carmalized sugar, some adjunct spice. There is a bit of a molasses flavor as well. Palate - approaching full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and short finish of some sweet malt.

Luvystypotables (2678) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - DEC 31, 2015
A subdued aroma of a malt and fruit, pours a dark brown color without much of a head. Flat beer with a malt and fruit taste with a hint of bourbon. Watery feel and a malt finish.
