Re-rate: Bottled, BB '97. Way better than the previous time a had it. The 5 years of extra aging makes this beer wonderfully complex. Chocolate, coffee, butter, caramel, all perfectly balanced. Leans a bit to a barley wine and an imperial stout even. However, 8 or 9 years is a long time to wait for such a delicacy. Original rate: (3.0) Bottled 25 cl, BB 28-12-2002. Clear dark amber coloured, medium lasting head. Aroma of malts, some port notes, a bit sweet. Flavour of sweet malts, some spices and very faint chocolate notes. Quite dry and sharp finish. Not really a dubbel-style beer. OK brew, nothing more.

33cl Bottle from Achelse Kluis. How can this be qualified as a Dubbel? Clear amber colour, white head. Aroma of butterscotch, very malty, caramel, apricot, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, malty, fruity, caramel, light bitter alcohol finish. Medium bodied, strong alcohol presence. Nice sipping beer.

33cl bottle poured into a Rochefort Trappist glass. Cloudy amber brown with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma is strong vanilla, caramel. Wow, it smells great. Flavor is toasty with vanilla and caramel notes and slight alcohol. Medium carbonation. Lightly bitter finish. Really nice beer. The flavor is very reminiscent of a cream stout, just a bit less roasty. Excellent dubbel.

Dark, cloudy orange with an edge of bubbles and scant lacing. Aroma of freshly baked bread and orange peel. Flavor of sour apples and citrus, a surprising taste for the style. Average body. An interesting beer, but not great - lacks complexity, and short on roasted malts.

Bottle - 330ml. Nice cloudy amber body with low carbonation and a decent off-white foamy head. Robust, complex malty/hoppy aroma with flowery, brown sugar and yeasty hints. Taste is well balanced and hides the alcohol pretty well. It carries some roasted cereals notes and ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Enjoyable Dubbel.

(33cl bottle, Double Enghien Brune) Hazy, amber colour with a fluffy and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty, sweet toast-malty aroma with a whiff of caramel, a bready touch, light berry fruits and notes of alcohol. Sugary sweet flavour, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Bready malt character with caramel and notes of red berries, chestnuts and vanilla; sweetish sugary malty finish with a late arriving light to moderate level of bitterness (22.06.09).

Finall getting to review this local beer I grew up drinking. Pours amber, off white head. Aroma is malty, grainy, plenty of sweetness and a corn like nose. Taste, malty, brown sugar, caramel with nice bready/cookie palate mixed with some dark fruits. Not overly bitter. Tasty stuff.

Bottle courtesy of LarsEngen. One-finger, beige coarse head. Amber colrored with an orangey shade. Fragrant, fruity and mild spicy malt aroma with herbal, peppery hops. Sourish, light sweet, light peppery malt flavor. Faint chocolate and burnt sugar. Earthy hop bitterness. Feels sharp in the mouth. Alcohol is noticable. Tight malty, spiced ending.
