Vanilla Noir is Prairie Noir aged on organic, fair trade vanilla beans, and let’s just say it takes a lot of beans! The vanilla flavor compliments the whiskey barrel aging process and adds a delicious layer to the beer.

Alengrin (11011) - Gent, BELGIUM - MAR 30, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2021 Whisky barrel aged vanilla stout by Prairie – strange that the word ‘Bomb’ seems to be absent here… Thanks to Steve for sharing! Medium thick, yellowish grey-beige, thin and open head on a black beer with thin burgundy edge. Aroma of indeed vanilla and very pronouncedly so – vanilla ice cream and vanilla beans, next to milk chocolate, Drambuie, mocha ice cream, hot chocolate sauce, espresso, fig jam, coffee cream, whisky. Dense onset, candied dates, burnt currants, light umami touch (teriyaki), soft carb, very full, oily and syrupy body, ‘heavy’ layers of toffee, pecan nut paste and dark chocolate aromatized by very clear and lovely vanilla, mocha ice cream and Drambuie effects in the finish – with gentle woodiness, warming whisky and a beautiful bittersweetness lingering. The whisky barrel ageing does not overshadow the actual vanilla here, maintaining a general ‘desserty’ feeling to it – this in itself is quite an achievement in this genre of stouts. Bit sticky and tiring in the end, perhaps, but as a luscious, ‘fat’ and opulent pastry stout of sorts, this certainly delivers what it promises – as is usually the case in these strong Prairie stouts.

Pyszne.

glennmastrange (3552) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - DEC 29, 2020
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2020 Bottle. Moderate toasted, molasses and dark chocolate for the malt, no noticeable hops, light dough for the yeast, with vanilla, soy sauce, and toffee in the background. Head id is fizzy/frothy, light brown, with no lacing and fully diminishes. Color is very dark brown, almost black. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes heavily sweet and and faintly bitter. Palate is full, between creamy and syrupy, with soft carbonation and a moderately alcoholic and sticky finish. Really nice drinking/sipping Flavored Imperial Stout. A great winter warmer.

bhensonb (21945) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 22, 2020
UPDATED: OCT 22, 2020 Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brn/blk with a slight tan head. Aroma of burnt malt, chocolate and vanilla. Quite full bodied. Flavor is burnt malt/treacle, chocolate, earth, vanilla. Hints of oak, and, with time, whiskey/heat is detectable. There's a lot going on here. Whiskey gets better and better with successive quaffs. This is very nice ale.
