Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

On tap at AleSmith brewery--Light straw-copper color with a frothy white head. Crisp, sugary, caramel nose. Fruity, lemony, spicy hopped flavor. Quite delicious!

bomber from bevmo, la jolla.. pours a cloudy, hazy, foggy golden orange witha powerful foam frosted head.. The head pushes the aroma of yeast and sauteed pine towards the nostrils and a sweet scent cant be smelt as well.. Hit to the palate is friendly and ambitious, like the smart girl in school trying to win votes for Class President.. The hops sneak in early but are escorted out quickly and like that they are gone.. the grainy, settling yeast is front and center and it pushes a citrus towards palate on the tailend.. Very easy, drinkable and well constructed.... It lacks a little bit of the punch some other APA’s I enjoy have but overall it is definitely another solid brew by my local friends at AleSmith..

Pale amber pour with white head, from bomber. Aroma of piney citrus and malt aroma jumps out at you. Flavours of lemon citrus, hops, and a balanced malt hints. The beer is very smooth and drinkable.

22 oz. bottle from South Bay Drugs. Pours a hazy gold color with a small eggshell white head that leaves just a little film and a ring. Aroma of caramel malts, honey, resin, pine, floral hops, citrus, and nectar. Flavor is even nicer, with notes of pine resin, caramel malts, hops, citrus, pineapple, and nectar. Medium-bodied, with active carbonation and a juicy mouthfeel. American pale ale is an innocent label for this one, because it’s awesome for that style. Drinks so well, with a fresh, sweet, fruity quality. Great beer.

AleSmith X Pours golden with a thick white head. Rather hazy and some nice lacing on the glass. Good retention. Aroma of citrus and hops. Very pleasing aroma with nice balance. Taste is hops on the level of an IPA with a sweet citrusy feel. Yummy for a lighter bodied beer with more flavor than I was anticipating. Slightly bitter hops aftertaste that does not linger. Great party beer when you want to show off without being off putting.

After a day of drinking massive IPAs this was just what a needed, a simple, clean, orangy-fruity pale ale that’s so very drinkable.

A: Very pale golden color, lots of carbonation, and an enormous amount of foam. S: A decent citrus hop aroma, but certainly not a punch in the face. T: Lemon, grapefruit, and a bit of malt and yeast on the finish. Interesting flavor. M: Very crisp and dry, tons of carbonation. D: Good drinkability, the carbonation and crispness make this a refreshing beer.

This was an awesome pale ale. Citrus, hops, spices, pine... very nice complex flavor and aroma. Lots of carbonation and head and a great finish. Bravo to AleSmith once again.

Location: On tap at the Brewery, 1/8/10

Aroma: Aroma of grapefruit, caramel malts, resin, and pine
Appearance: Hazy golden-amber color with a creamy head
Flavor: Taste is resiny hops and some fruit juice, with sweet malts
Palate: Light-medium of body, nice mouthfeel, drinks really nicely
Overall Impression: This is a really solid APA. Another good beer from AleSmith, this pale has a lot of nice west coast hop character to it. A very good brew.
