Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

This is my third Imp of the fall and they have all tasted and smelled the same. Thick black color with a medium tan head. Bitter raw hop aroma at start with licorice and coffee coming out at end. Tiring.

22oz bomber from Central Market in Plano. Pours a near opaque body, with ruby highlights, that’s topped with a creamy, tan head that leaves lots of window pane lacing. Aroma is espresso coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, licorice, roasty, rich toffee, milk chocolate and some alcohol. Flavors of fresh, heavily roasted coffee, baker’s cocoa and alcohol. Secondary flavors of dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate and hint of hop bitter. Very smooth, coffee-esque bitter finish lingers quite a while. Fine, soft, carbonation and a full mouthfeel. A classic everyone should try.

Bottled 9/4/09 and consumed 3/4/10. Pours black with a brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, rum and dark fruit. The flavor is roasted/burnt malt with chocolate. There is a nice amount of hop bitterness at the end. The aftertaste is highly roasted almost burnt malt. Thick mouthfeel and low-medium carbonation.

Bottle: Smell is full of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, espresso, and other dark and roasted ingredients. Pours a beautiful black beer with a nice lasting one finger beige head. Taste is a delicious mix of roasted malts and barleys (overwhelming), hops and bitters, coffee, chocolate, espresso and a hint of caramel and licorice. Extremely bitter but perfectly balanced, dry aftertaste with hints of coffee and again an overwhelming taste of roasted ingredients. Perfectly balanced and one of the better and affordable Imperial Stouts out there.

Rated on 2010-03-14. Pours dark and inky with a large tan head, fine clinging lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, toast, earth, vanilla and wood. Full bodied, dry, chewy, smooth and creamy. Very sweet initially with chocolate, coffee, citrus, medium bitter mid-palate, earthy and grassy, long medium bitter finish. Nicely balanced.

Black with a small beige head. Nice aroma: roast and coffee being dominant, some sweet toffee, then a hint of licorice. The flavor is definitely big and roasty as well, with loads of coffee and burnt notes. This is balanced out by some sweet caramel. Black licorice hints appear in the flavor as well. There’s some resinous hops coming in on the finish. Very delicious, now I can’t wait to try the oak aged version.

Very dark in color with chocolate and coffee aromas. A good malty mix with a good hop balance. The hops are strong but not over powerful. The head is thin with a lavendar tint. It’s a great sipping beer.

Pours pitch black with a thick, foamy brown head. Fairly good lacing through to finish. Aroma of black licorice, cocoa powder, roasted coffee, and alcohol . Taste has some warming alcohol up front with good balancing hops. Lots of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and espresso flavors as well. Aftertaste is bitter and dry. This one could seriously sneak up on you.
