Copper body and loose sudsy off-white head. Leathery malts and considerable hop bitterness. Has an odd spicy quality. Seems lacking. Doesn’t have the nice creaminess and balance like a New River Pale Ale, for instance. Winner of the 2002 GABF bronze medal? That baffles me.

My parents picked up a six pack for me when they traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer and enjoyed it very much. Clear amber pour with white head. Smell of hops and flavor of hops. Very good!"

Draft. Golden amber color with a small white head. Light caramel malt and citrus hops in the nose. The nose is much lighter than it should be. Medium carbonation with a very light mouthfeel. Palate is mainly pine and resin from the bittering hops. Clean finish with a litter lingering bitterness. Light and very clean, but also very one dimensional.

Sampled at the Cetreville location. Pours a light copper with a large head. Average head retention and good lacing. Aroma of caramel malts and citrus hops. Taste is fruity hops, citrus and apricot, Caramel malts as well. Medium bodied. This one is fairly nice.

20 Oct 2008 Found my lost notes. On tap Falls Church. Not a Pale Ale fan at all. Too hoppy and grassy for me.

Draft at Centreville. Pours copper amber with an off white head. Faint malty and fruity ester aroma. Medium bodied. Nice huge maltiness with some toastiness, along with faint smoke phenol. This has a bold herbal and grapefruity bitterness. Dry hoppy finish, with some clingy resin. This is not bad, and has the bitterness of an IPA.

On tap at the Merrifield location in Fairfax, Virginia. Dark copper pour, not much nose, though this could be because the beer was served way too cold. As it warmed, some caramel/toffee notes appeared. Flavor is slight grapefruit, malt, moderate amount of hops. an okay session beer, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to seek this one out.
