Very faint aroma of chocolate & cocoa. Intense rosted malt and cocoa flavour! Fantastic aftertaste, good bittering hops. Molasses, slightly wort-ish (imagine drinking from the boil, homebrewers). Thin astringent mouthfeel. Great stout, but it needs a bit more polish.
2008 Re-rate Really strong smoked aroma and taste this time around. More a rauchbier than a stout. Soy, nuttiness, very bold. Otherwise, unchanged.

Hoppy with licorice taste. Aroma is also mostly licorice. Body is a little thinner than expected. Easy drinking for a 7.2% imperial stout. Dark chocolate and some Marmite in the aroma. Soft palate is fairly thick with silky carbonation. Fruity, with rich acidity mixed with chocolate has a spicy quality too with some raisin sweetness. Decent complexity and lingering roasty finish. DalzAle (605), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2009 Rated at the Longwood Brew Pub, how could it be any fresher than this? Arriving at my table in a lovely, tall glass, this beer had a thin tan head of no more than one finger’s depth. The body was seriously dark, and the aroma was a big-time nose treat of roasted/toasted malts. Taste was likewise, but featured a generous dose of burnt coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Nice mouthfeel, not thin like some other stouts, and a very smooth finish. DuffMan (2870), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Bottle thanks to mmmIPA. Pours a copper brown with a light brown head that leaves some early lace. Aroma of chocolate and roast. Flavours of chocolate and cigar box. Sweet with a medium mouthfeel. This was a nice little brew with nice flavour. But there is no way that this qualifies as an imperial stout in my mind. Rather it is a nice regular stout or even a london porter. It is just too light to be an impy. Still it was tasty mind you. joss (3803), Garching b. München, Germany
