A lightly hazed blonde with a creamy white head. An herbal malt with lots of hoppy surprises, coriander and orange. In mouth, a light coriander with diffused hop juices, pleasant drink for the monks. From JPattyn, Belgium trip, Nov. 2006. Shared with Ian Guénard, GRM, and Dumdum, Dégustation Trappiste I, March 9,2007.

Bottle @ Kulminator. Pours out amber colourd, small head. Strong hoppy aroma. Malts and hops in taste, full bodied, and for only that ABV! Great finish, hoppy. Nice.

Bottle at Kulminator. White grape juice and malt aroma. Clear bright yellow color with small head and medium effervescence. Light white grape juice and woody flavor. Very airy body. Interesting to say the least.

Pours a clear light gold color with some light yeast floating and with an nice white head. Aroma is malty, light yeast, fruity, with hints of apples and bananas, hints of honey and spices. Flavors of malts, yeast, flowery, straw, some corn, hints of citrus and banana, hints of honey and spices. Good carbonation, little sweet and good bitter dry finish. Good balanced, and good long lasting flavors in mouth. The bigining felt watery but not so at the end.

Bottle, courtesy CheeseMan. The pour yields a lightly hazy, medium-golden amber body. A small, smooth layer of creamy white foam shows nice retention, leaving skinny arches and bands of lacing behind on the glass. The aroma shows a malt base of golden wheat and sweet bread dough, with a kiss of honey and balancing notes of lightly peppery, dried floral hops. Though the flavor is largely the same, again very doughy and ripe with fresh, sweet grain, the hop profile expands to include some welcomed, zesty, lemony hop notes. Light in body and carbonation, it drinks incredibly easy. Though this brew is not very complex, it is highly sessionable and balanced. I could drink it all day. Nice singel.

(on bottle) Clear hazyyellow, beige small, head. Small yeasted, malt nose; cane sugars and a distant smoke, maybe some elderflower. The fatness of the sugar is quite dominating and evne though the finish is koind of waterish, the alcohol lingers for a long time.

33cl bottle at the Demervallei. I was surprised to find this one in a pub, because this one you can only taste in the monastery. Pours a nice blond cloudy beer with a lot of white foam on it. This one asks to be drunk. Aroma is little malty with some spices and a banana smell. Taste is spicy with a nice banana taste and a very good bitterness that stays for some time. Mouthfeel is a little to aqueous but I didn’t expected else from a beer with such low alcohol. This one is a very impressive brew and surely a nice beer to drink on a hot summer day.

330mL bottle with best before date 8/07/11. A - Pours cloudy golden with a huge pillow of white head that recedes but never goes away. S - Spices, yeast, apples, and a touch of sweetness. T - A little bit of a let down from the smell. Mainly yeast spice with a nice clean grassy hop finish. M/D - This is probably the best part of this beer. I completely see why this is beer the monk’s drink. Great carbonation gives a lively mouthfeel and clean finish.

Thanks jblauvs! Slightly hazy golden pour with a lively white head and excellent carbonation in the body. Aroma is quite doughy with lemon/orange citrus, orchids, angelfood cake, and spicy clove. Flavor is massively citrus oriented with huge herbal notes, rosemary, sage, and further dough incarnations. Palate is full for the style, demonstrating a full billowy effervescence and a slightly acidic citrus finish. Quite dry near the end.
