Clear golden color with a decent size head. Aroma is monstrously hoppy with huge piney, mega-sour citrus, and other assorted hop aromas. Taste is monstrously hop-heavy with lots of big, piney and super-citrus hop flavors. Thick, yet smooth, this one really delivers a quality hop-forward flavor and feel that compares favorably with the Plinys - well done. A really good example of what a D/IIPA can be.

Pours a hazy gold with a medium to small khaki head with great retention. Aroma is hugely hoppy - lots of mango, resinous, dank pine, a few metallic notes, a touch of alcohol, strong grapefruit, and a bit of caramel in there on the sides. The flavor is super full and round. Well balanced despite the huge hop character. More grapefruit and pine, and a strong caramel backbone similar to that of Third Coast Old Ale, surprisingly. This beer is obscenely drinkable; I will want to make sure and keep myself occupied with making dinner so I don’t end up on the floor. mastabass666 (195), California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2010 Pours orange gold with a small head. Aroma-pungent, grassy, slightly fruity hops. Taste-hops dominate the taste in every way; pine, tropical fruit, floral. Pretty complex, yet easy to drink. Some malt backbone and sweetness come through in the finish. Medium-full body. Complex, fruity/bitter and lingering aftertaste. Really nice. CelticBrew (730), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2010 Poured from bomber a lovely orange-copper, forming a nice craggy head of foam. Aroma evident of pine resins, tropical fruit flowers and clean Irish field grass. The flavour was of pine-hoppage, slivers of mango’s and juicy fruits. The bitterness is well balanced as malt comes in to compliment the swirls of happiness. Distinct lacing forms as beer is readily consumed. Alcohol hidden as beer is dangerously consumable. Alpine really did this one great, superb beer!! HopheadHans (763), Bay Area, California, USA

Way more complex. pours with a rather pale color. The aroma already has a great complexity of pine, roses, fruity apricot and citrus. The aroma is as complex if not more so. Super hoppy with a nice smooth sticky malt backbone. In all that bitterness you can even find some tropical nuances,. Only minus that keeps it from being perfect is a slight alcohol hotness shakespeare33 (149), san diego, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 5, 2010 What can I say...bottle from my man Sid at Juniors on 7th and c.. He kept one in the back for me and JW32hoops.. pours a cloudy stoneclad, hazy yellowish orange with a two finger foamy head that climbs the walls of my glass like a knight from the middle ages.. aroma.. WOW... floral pine hits my nose and gently jerks it backwards but arouses my nostrils for a another wiff.. Initial hit to the palate is that of an unbelievably constructed Triple... No ETOH taste but rather a sensual grip of hops dance on my palate and then give way to a caramel, oak filled sweetness that beckon me for another swill..With each sip this fine brew holds form like a tornado bunker but with the architecture of a museum built by IM PEI.. yes, I said it.. this sonofabitch rocks... smooth, crisp and as it warms it mellows even more, much like a Sunday morning... This high degree of difficulty makes no splash as it enters the water that is my mouth.. The boys at Russian River aint got shit on this KING KONG... Thoroughly impressed.. Strong enough for a man but made for mankind... GREAT BODY Alpine, can you follow me upstairs and check out my cd collection?!! Well done... badgerfan9501 (9), Alabama, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 5, 2010 Phenomenal aroma from the start. First few sips were almost too strong for me, but after that, it was hoppy goodness. Well balanced. Only negative is its hard to find. JW32Hoops (34), San Diego, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2010 22oz from the Super Jr Mart downtown SD on 7th between C and Broadway...ask for Sid. OK, so if you’ve read any of my IPA reviews, you know I’m a big fan of the American (particularly the San Diego) style of florals, citrus and hoppy bitterness rather than the English style of toffee, caramel, maltyness, etc...but this one rides the line just right for me. Aroma is sweet caramel, which usually concerns me, but this time I’m open minded. I smell a little booze too, but it doesn’t scare me off, quite to the contrary, it gives me a chubby. Initial palate shot screams "Sweet, syrupy, English style IPA!"...and all of that is true....yet I still really like it. This is due to the hoppy, boozy flavor that humps my palate so sweetly as it smooths out and fades into that good night. For a Tripe IPA, I still prefer Pliny, but this is certainly a special beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2010 Poured from the bottle into my Sam Adams pint glass. Cracking the bottle, the hop aroma already became prevelant. Smell is dank floraly and piney hops amd slight buscuity smell. The taste does not live up to the smell here. The heavy malt backbone overpowers the hops and it tastes more of caramel than floraly hops. Still a great IPA but falls short of the what the nose would lead you to believe
