Commercial Description:
A complex mash makes this beer truly unique for such a classic style with such a simple name. We combine two types of sweet caramel malt, lightly roasted biscuit and victory malts for depth and richness and of course highly roasted chocolate malt for perfect brown ale color and flavor. Magnum hops lend a clean and balancing bitterness and Mt. Hood hops are added plentifully especially at the end of the boil for an excellent flavor and aroma.

Better than I expected this was a creamy caramel sweet tasting beer with a balanced enough body to not venture into barley wine sweet.

Second Dick’s beer of the night. RIP. Clean dark amber body, small white head. Lavender caramel aroma, sweet and bright. Medium roast, full bodied, ample leafy hops. Great for my tastes.

Ontap at Dick’s. Two things keeps this from being outstanding brown. A little more body, just a little. And less hops. Too hoppy for a brown.

12 oz bottle from Huckleberries in Spokane. Not all that good of a brown. Not smooth enough, and overall, I have to give this one a thumbs down.

12 oz bottle from Market of Choice. Pours a clear, light brown with a big fluffy tan head. Aroma is earthy, cocoa, caramel. Flavor is caramel, biscuit, very small cocoa and a bit of strange fruitiness. Palate a little thinner than I’d prefer.

I love brown ales, and I’m a fan of Dick’s, but something here isn’t right. Light, not all that complex. Malt taste fades to a syrupy-alcohol finish. Maybe it was just the bottle I had; I’d like to try this on tap, but the first impression wasn’t all that impressive.
