SilkTork (7744) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2022UPDATED: APR 29, 2022 April 2022, on the day that Chrissie is caring for Marie because of her reaction to the chemo treatment for her breast cancer, and I get the news that the £1,500 I lent to someone for funeral expenses won't be paid back. Sigh. The compensation is that this is a glorious beer. I'm not a fan of pale lagers. I sort of tolerate them, but I don't love them. But this I love. And I'll even forgive it for gushing all over my desk when I opened the can. Thus is fresh and soft and lemony and oh so drinkable and divine. I love it! [3.8]
Pingaware (214) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 12, 2021UPDATED: OCT 12, 2021 2/3 pint from keg, drunk at Salt Horse 2021-08-18.
Appearance is a hazy gold with a pretty thin white head that lingers a long, long time. Tiny amount of visible carbonation. It's an unusual appearance for a lager, but I quite like it. Does need more carbonation though.
Aroma is also not exactly what I'd expect. Surprising peachy hit, along with a bit of grain beneath it and some sweet citrus - tangerine almost. Very floral at any rate. Slight grassiness as well perhaps? I really quite like this and it's got a decent strength too.
Taste is more classic lager. Nice backbone of grain, little bit of brown bread malt, with some lemony citrus cutting through and maybe a touch of that same floral stone fruit. Not doing anything unusual unlike the nose and appearance, but it's still a good lager.
Palate is fine. Light-bodied but with a decent kick of in-mouth carbonation. Surprisingly soft and effervescent, with just a touch of juiciness coming through at the end of the moderate length finish.
Overall, I feel this is a pretty decent lager! Hits the standard notes where needed, but different enough around that. I'd like a little more citrus to cut through in the mouth I think, but this would definitely be a good standby for a cellar.
