I was really glad to see, upon arriving at Ratebeer, that my impressions of the beer were not out of line with the general trend. I didn’t expect a beer from Central Waters to be so off. Not a particularly brown among brown ales, and I was struck by the sourness of the beer. There’s a dominant caramel note but it is otherwise quite unidimensional.

Sampled from 12-oz bottle and shared by oetiii in Antigo, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear coppery brown amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a thin film top and ring. Aroma of lightly roasted dark caramel malt, some skoniness with a touch of roasted hazelnuts and toffee. Taste is a little oxidized with a dry caramel malt and acidic hop flavors with plenty of carbonation. Finish is slightly metallic with a dark roasted malt aftertaste. This bottle was well past its prime and pull date. At least I can say I tried this product.

12oz bottle-A hazy very light brown with a small ring for a head . Aroma of a little malt but pretty much nothing. Taste of nothing with a little sourness. May be an old bottle but if it is not a very weak brown.

A one-dimensional brown beer--it’s molasses you know--in the aroma, inthe taste...nicely done for molasses, dominating the taste of the brown. An attempt at appropriate carbonation. There is the brown colour, and good thick foam lace. Thank you JPM30.

Found this one bottled in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Deep reddish brown pour with a light, fluffy white head and a very off nose, I almost thought it was skunky, smelled sour. Tasted fine, though. Pleasantly hoppy with some baked bread, coconut and apple. Finished a bit watery, but not bad. I don’t know if I’d have more of it but it wasn’t terrible.

clear brownish copperish pour lots of visable carbonation and a full off white head. Not much of an aroma at all. Palate is light and smooth fairly well coated. Flavor is nutty full of almond and carmel and hazlenut. Flavor is decent, but this isn’t much of a beer.

I haven’t had many brown ales and this was least favorite. No nutty taste. Bit watery and bland. Appeal went down hill as I drank it.

A carmelish, sweet aroma. Darkish brown appearance. More caramel in the first taste. Somewhat fizzy palate. After the initial taste test, I tended to begin liking the beer a little more, but it didn’t set off any fireworks.
