| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2010 12 oz. bottle from Party Town, 2009 vintage. Pours a cloudy ruby-amber with a small tan head that becomes a lasting film on the beer. Aroma of caramel malts, smoked wood, vanilla, dark fruits (raisins, plums, cherries), and alcohol. Flavor of smoked oak, caramel malts, vanilla, dark fruits (raisins, plums), maple, apple, and alcohol. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a lingering alochol aftertaste. Smooth and boozy. Couldn’t hurt to mask the booze a bit more in this. Still a pretty solid barley wine. BroSpud (691), , Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2010 12oz bottle. BIG beer. Pours dark amber with alot of sediment settled on the bottom of the bottle. Taste is indeed vanilla and maple with very little alcohol taste though the alcohol is definitely there so be careful. A pretty good and interesting barley wine ale. philbertk (844), Seattle, Washington, USA

Taste: Wood, sweet cherry, vanilla, bitter hops. The wood and hops leave a lingering enjoyable level of bitterness on the tongue well after the sip.
Mouthfeel: A bit tanic and astringent with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Awesome big bold flavors, great level of bitterness. Very surprised at how good this is. randy1301 (47), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 14, 2010 Aroma of fruit, oak, vanilla, and smoke. Pours an amber-brown haze with a thin head. A suspended brew. You get hit with smoke and then sweet, and then back to smoke. Love the vanilla feel mixed in on this barley wine, but the smoke flavor is a bit dominating. A dry, sweet finish. Really getting into the barley wines, but this one isn’t doing it for me. bedainedebiere (362), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada

Much better then that overated Bells Third Coast I ratebeer-destroyed yesterday, because there’s a decent hopping to balance the barley sweetness; not a very strong hop presence but a decent one. Some (aggressive)smokeyness and notes of woods, with fruits and some sweetness (but not maple syrup to me) make this beer one of the good barley wines I had from the US. But, again, that DDC’s Solstice d’hiver... jdskinns (31), South Roxana, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2010 Bottle. Pours with a fizzy, soapy white head. Brown body with good carbonation. Smell is very sweet with some alcohol. Dark fruit too. Malty, sweet and bready. Not a lot of hops, but just enough. Smoke flavor is rather light, a perfect amount. The oak, maple syrup, and vanilla all come through to make a very balanced and delicious beer. Very drinkable and enjoyable.
