Flavor is nice and malty, not as sweet as the aroma but a solid caramel taste. In the finish ther is a nice hop character. Seemed like a lighter Scottish Ale. haddon90 (1050), Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Aroma is hoppy and citrusy with undertones of berries and pine needles. Flavor is very rough, abrasive and bitter with very minimal actual flavor. Overall, smells much better than it tastes. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 8, 2007 Caramel brown in the glass with not much head. Lots of Caramel/toast aromas and some soapy hops that carry a good amount of spice. Short palate with fleeting hops, malts hang around a bit longer. All in all, pretty smooth and generous with malt flavors. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Body is amber-brown colored with a small, tanned-white head. Smells of winter spices, pine and hops: both flowery fragrant and tangy. Taste begins sweet and spicy with a medium amount of butterscotch malt underneath. The hops hit next with a spicy zing, watering the tongue to a nice bittersweet, grapefruit finish. Aftertaste is bitter hops and some doughiness. Taste buds are treated to an excellent transistion from sweet to bitter. Not sure if this will help anyone, but it reminds me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale mixed with Killian's Amber sweetness . May not sound great but it works here. Give this one a try, it is better than last year's "Winters Ale," which says something because it was also quite good. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
