Clear dark ruby, with a strong nose of sweet and waxy honey, and a load of currant and boysenberries. Big sweet sugary flavor with a big boozy blackberry and currant tone, with a sticky backbone of citrusy sugary honey. Pretty nice. But clearly and nichely a dessert wine.

750 ml bottle purchased at Bine & Vine ($22.99). Thanks Geoi for stocking these rare Polish meads! Pours at room temperature a clear amber-brown hue with no head. AROMA of sweet honey, sticky fruit (including black currants, plums, and raisins), port wine, molasses, and a little bit of holiday-type spice and booze. FLAVOR includes much of the same as the nose with lots of thick honey, cinnamon, sweet candied plums and currants, port, brandy, caramel, and molasses. The first sip is kind of cloyingly sweet, but things seem to calm down after that on the sweetness scale. Actually quite smooth, though the 16% does make itself known some with a little bit of alcohol burn as it goes down the gullet. I do prefer the Póltorak Jadwiga, but this was similarly good and at a much lower price point. (212, 928)
