Commercial Description:
At the request of you hopheads, we produced this I.P.A. with a deep golden color, plenty of hop bitterness balanced by malt sweetness. Because of the extensive dry hopping, there’s a floral and citrus hop finish. It’s then lightly filtered to maintain the appropriate body and flavor. The beer features a combination of American, English and German malts to balance the large amount of hops. The HopFish also uses three hop varieties at five different times and has been dry-hopped for two weeks with 22lbs of Nugget whole leaf hops.

This is a nice beer, but doesn’t taste anything like an IPA. The aroma is flowery hops mixed with caramel malt and the flavor profile seriously leans more towards malty. There’s a slight hop presence, but no real bitterness to be found.........and the copper coloring, beautiful tanish-white head, and malty flavor make this a great ESB. Better than Flying Fish’s own Amber/ESB. I’d buy this again, but it’s certainly no IPA.

This beer pours a gold clear body. Medium head. The aroma is sweet hops with fruity citrus. The flavor is full of malts and plenty of citrusy hops. Not bad brew by the fish.

On tap. Pours golden-copper with almost no head. Citrusy hop aroma with hints of biscuit malt and fruit. Light body is too smooth for IPA. Light citrus hops, some sweet fruit and biscuit malt almost balance each other out. Finish is short and dry. Pleasant, easy drinking beer but too light for IPA.

man, this is the kind of ipa i go for. pours a bold orange-amber with a creamy off-white head. nose is big- nicely-balanced mix of malt and hops. the hops are that grapefruit, resin-y, sticky sort with a hint of barnyard skunkiness, and this comes to play big in the flavor. once again, well-rounded and leaving me wanting more. thick mouthfeel, but short finish.

Poured hazt orange-amber with almost no head. citrusy hop aroms with a slight spice note underneath. Palate was very slightly oily. Citrus and pine hops notes in the taste. Refreshing, not too heavy on the hops.

Solid IPA even if its slightly metallic and a bit unbalanced from some hay-like flavors. Floral nose with some alcoholic caramel esters. I like the dryness from the dry hopping of the nuggets and the malts help balance out the bitterness to make this beer pretty drinkable (wrong site to say that?). Not mind blowing but I can’t hate on this one either.

After a bit of a disappointment from the ESB in the Flying Fish Variety Pack, this is a welcomed relief. Pours amber with a thick off-white head. The head lingers and there is some lacing. The aroma is similar to many IPAs and many of my favorites. If a pine tree had a big beautiful flower, this is what I would expect it to smell like. Urgh... How looks and smell can be deceiving. Initially, the first second, this beer has potential. Then, it quite quickly fades, leaving an abrupt disappointment.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 1/12/10

Aroma: A little bit of citrus and some corn, not much else
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark golden color with a wispy white head
Flavor: Light sweet citrus malt flavor, just a small touch of hop bitterness
Palate: This one is crisp and clean, and fairly light in body
Overall Impression: Felt more like a Pale Ale to me then an IPA. Not a bad beer, the aroma is pretty lacking though. I found the hop profile lacking as well. The score would be a bit higher if this wasn’t called an IPA. It works better as a Pale Ale, but as an IPA, the hop profile is definitely lacking.
