Similar flavour profile - nicely balanced with the spices accentuating the sweetness and vice versa. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 1, 2005 Brown with a muddy brown head. Smells like a fuckin ginger bread man. Check that, it smells like a fuckin ginger bread house. Tastes like, of couse, gingerbread. Not as good as the regular i had back in the day, but still pretty tame and good. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2005 I had to do some hunting to figure out that this was the special edition. Deep red color with a small off white head. The ginger bread cookie aroma was what gave this away as the special edition. Dang, that is a really gingery taste. Lots of spieciness, too much in fact. Very tingly in the mouth. Not too good. grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2004 My bottle says nothing about a special addition, however if this is a Dubbel than I am out of my mind and so is this web site. The descriptions here sound more convincing as to what I’m drinking. Pours a really scarlet brown. Head dies really fast. Beer is loosely carbonated. Nose is very very spicy. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and about a pound and a half of cloves. Like a clove punch to the face. Flavors are very tinny. Cloves pervade and then this gives way to a very pronounced rusty...maybe phenolic like flavor. Very offputting. Not tasty...ewww. Not sure if I can finish it.

I’d go so far as to day it was the worst beer I’ve ever had. It tasted kind of like a ginger snap, and you know, I like ginger snaps. But it doesn’t work for this beer. I can’t imagine ginger working for any beer, to be honest. No sir, do not drink this beer. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2004 I am curious to see how this ages the longer I keep it around. I will try it again after a year has gone by. A very nice spicy X-mas beer, with some ginger spice and lots of malt, that is slightly watery but has a decent hop profile. Has some nice chocolate coffee flavors mixed with nutmeg and clove. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Very christmas-like spicy aroma.... ginger, cinnamon, maybe licorice and chocolate. Flavor is decent... same spices and chocolate show up. Body is a little lacking and watery.
