Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Weak hop aroma, some chlorine and soap comes through as well. Dark gold, thin wispy head. Very good British style IPA. Maris Otter and earthy UK hops.

With thanks to Blutt59. Appearance: Light red/brown with a small off white head and a tiny amount of visible carbonation. Aroma: A nice floral bouquet at first then followed by an earthy, breadiness with spice and lemons. Interesting. Flavour: Spicy hops! Nice zesty feel on the tongue with a delicious grapefruitiness that seems to linger well into the finish. Lovely.

Bottle via trade with lb4lb. Aroma is fairly bitter with some citrus and malt notes. Pours Full copper with a creamy withe head. Flavor starts mildly bitter than proceeds to an odd metallic and somewhat cerealy character. The hops are there, but the malt profile seems a bit off. Thin to medium bodied. A tad watery. The metallic flavor just throws it off for me.

Bottled. Pours a clear golden, brown colour with a medium sticky white head. Aroma is totally hops but nothing overpowering. Citrus with only a hint of pine. That holds true for the fllavour too. Just easy drinking citrus bitterness. Solid, easy to find IPA.

Small fizzy white head above a redish amber body. Light peppery pine aroma accompanied by some citrus. Very nice IPA flavor and mouthfeel. Despite the fact that it is good, nothing sticks out in the flavor. Typical piney caramel malt. Good though!

Tap. Hell yeah. I gotta agree with the bro, I'm tired of hopped-to-hell west coast pound-you-in-the-ass IPAs. This is a bit easier on the hops but it has a nice and sweet malty backbone. I'm not sure of the ABV, but I'd even say that this crosses over into the "American Strong" style - it makes me think "Arrogant Bastard's little brother." Maybe "Slightly cocky bastard?"

12oz bottle: This one pours a cloudy, orangish-golden color. There was a very small head that went away immediately. There was no lacing. The aroma is dominated by grapefruit hops. There may be a hint of pininess there also. The taste is good, but doesn’t quite elicit any raves. A decent hop presence in the taste, but not much else. Some maltiness. OK, but not really one to search out.

(bottle - thanks Swalden_28) Very slightly hazy gold with white head and some lace. Mild pine/floral hops aroma. Flavor is very nice - balanced biscuit malt and citrus/floral hops flavor. Excellent traditional IPA.
