Medium-bodied, creamy and soft with a lightly astringent finish, it tastes even better than it smells. A nice, sweet, nutty beer with a slightly dry finish, this one gave me "warm fuzzies". It would be an awesome cool-weather brew, unfortunately it’s in the 80’s right now, so I’ll probably be waiting until this fall to pick up some more. Bell’s makes some truly tasty beers.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 18, 2010 I anticipated a little more emphasis on the malts, but this brown ale comes across a little too hoopy. That said, it is still a very nice ale. A bit spicy and not sweet enough for me. kmyers8807 (58), Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2010 Bottle. Pour was a cloudy dull red color with 3+ fingers of head. Brown sugar and malt is the dominate flavor, with hints of carmel, slightly bitter hops, and toffee. Very enjoyable brown ale. RoscoeJackson (51), Michigan, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 12, 2010 Bottle, batch 9403. Pours a mostly clear, reddish brown color topped by a large, pillowy cream colored head that settles to a thin, bubbly foam. The aroma shows toasted nuts, brown sugar, dark fruit, and caramel malt. The flavor is similar showing the caramel malt and brown sugar along with hints of toasted nuts, roast, and a touch of earthy hops in the backend. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation and a clean, smooth finish. Nice little brown ale. Grizzle (62), Lawrence, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 11, 2010 12 oz. -> dimpled mug. Pours a hazy brown, with red-orange undertones; soft, pillow-y head of a lightly toasted marshmallow hue; occasional fisheyes, that turn into deep craters as the head settles. Smells spicy, like pumpkin pie - cloves, allspice - with lightly roasted malts, cocoa, and a subtle banana-ness. Tastes spicy, too: the clove/pumpkin pie is there, as is the roasted malt, with a nice nutty toffee quality. Maybe a tiny bit too sweet; more pronounced hops to add some balance would be appreciated. Is it truly the best brown ale? No, but it is the Best Brown Ale, dig? tastybeer (210), Washington DC, USA
