Commercial Description:
This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring. Available September - May

Bottle: Pours jet black, a brief tan head that subsided rapidly. Roasted espresso nose, not as complex as I’d hoped. The first taste is all tart cherries, chased with roasted coffee beans, chicory, and chocolate. The aftertaste presents some mildly bitter hops and the first hint of the higher-than-average alcohol. I’m finding it far too easy to slam this back, partially due to the great flavour and much due to a terrific, viscous mouthfeel that sees her glide down the gullet way too simple. I’m really enjoying this one, can’t wait to try the Expedition.

Nice chocolate head. Very nice viscous pour. A very promising beer. Head eventually fades away, but this is still a very nice looking beer. Wow, a nice roast aroma at first, with a little coffee to compliment, but the coffee is not overdone, and for good reason. Wish it were a little more pungent, but that is only because I love just mean f*cking stouts. Wow, tart cherries are easily noticeable at first. In fact, that is the first flavor that I noticed. Nice roast flavor to follow up, and compliment the tart. Overall, I think that with some age this thing would be awesome. I couldn’t say for sure, but that tart needs to settle out, to give a more nuanced stout. Great texture. A great beer, but I wish I had a cellar to put this in. Chocolate comes out as well, but that tart flavor just needs to settle a bit. Great brew.

Black and viscous. Aroma is earthy and sour. Some fluffy brown head that doesn’t hang out for long. The flavor is chocolate, burnt toast and a hint of cherry sour. I’m not a big fan of stouts, but I really liked this one.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Adrian. Generous fellow. Pours a dark brown, very Cherry Coca Cola like colour with reddish undertones and a brown head. Fragrant aroma of cherries, roasted malts, and chocolate. Tastes of cherry, roasted malts, coffee, and dark chocolate. Tart flavour lingers on the palate.

2007 or early 08 in a chalice out of bottle very alchy smell and taste, smell the cherries. Very dark typical of stout but could be thicker. Taste very boozey. Had expedition before hand and this does not compare. Tarty lingering taste but I am not impressed. Needs Aging!

Pours brown with a red tint. Aroma of cherries and chocolate. Flavor was big on cherries with a roasted coffee texture. Hints of chocolate present.

Pours black with a tan head. Cherry and chocolate aroma. Huge cherry flavor that smooths into a roasty and malty finish. More cherry than I expected, but I really enjoyed this one. I recommend trying it, especially if you like cherries.

So, this boys been sittin in the fridge for over a year. I’ve heard bad things, but I am now pleasantly surprised. Reddish black pour, aroma of vinegar, cherries, chocolate. The flavor is similar but very slightly sour, on account of the cherry flavor. Pretty decent brew, but I think this one needs some age on it.
