Dark brown-black with a light head. Rich chocolate roast aroma and a similar body that is accented by black patent to add the requisite complexity. A respectable porter.

On draught at Portland City Grill. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Chocolate malt, roasted barley and coffee in the nose. Medium body with a roasted character of coffee and malt, along with chocolate and some hops. The finish is bittersweet chocolate with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle. Aroma of musty malt, chocolate, burnt notes coming out a bit later. Flavor more burnt and roasted from the beginning than the aroma indicated. Not bad.

Bottle thanks to kenb. Pours black with a small light ran head. Aroma of old stale roasted malts. Flavor is much of the same stale-ish malt, a touch of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. There are some good notes hiding in this beer, but overall it wasn’t that great. 5/4/6/4/13 [3.2/5]

Bottle:   Deep cola, burnt caramel edges, thin sudsy sand colored head, spotty lacing.   Deep roasted malt nose, very slight cocoa, minor ash.   Robust roasted malt flavor, minor milk sugar sweetness, a little campfire.   Lots of flavor, but the malt backing isnt all there.   For an organic Porter, this is actually quite nice.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit it is nearing the thin side.   Clean finish, roasted malts linger, minor lactose sweetness too.   Would be better if this one was a bit thicker.   Otherwise, pretty decent.

Thanks Hayduke! What a delicious aroma! It is sweet dark fruit, roasted malt, and vanilla. So appetizing. It is almost black with red highlights. Almost no head but steady source of tan bubbles emerges from the center of the glass. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma but is very nice. Smoke, vanilla, dark fruit, earth, chocolate, ash. If this beer has a flaw it is in that ash which is akin to an ash tray and is a prominent theme. It is still a top shelf porter and almost world class. I do love a good porter and this is one. There is so much going on here. Hayduke did well!

On tap at Bailey’s Taproom in Portland. Pours a dark brown, little head. Light smoke aroma with vanilla and chocolate. Pretty well balanced, with a bitter chocolate finish.

22 oz bottle via LS. Pours a dark brown, almost black with an average beige head. Nose is mellow but plesant. Taste is toffee, nuts, a little smoke and some coffee ash. Body is thin. Carbonation moderate/high. A decent and very sessionable porter.
