Commercial Description:
Our interpretation of the American red ale style. Unlike most other examples of the style, ours is a dark, robust red from the use of 5 different malts. A blend of 3 different hops from 4 additions gives our Mesabi Red a full hop character.

Poured gold copper color with 1 finger head. (not very red) Nose is malty and floral. Sweet malt taste then floral hops. Flowery and mildly bitter finish. Not a bad beer but not what I was expecting in a red ale.

12 oz bottle from Princeton’s. Amber colored pour with a small white head. Aroma is a big caramel smell. Flavor is slightly malty, slightly caramel-y and a bit hoppy. Finish is a bit hoppy. OK beer but I’m not a huge fan of ambers so take my rating with that in consideration.

Bottle: Sweet aroma of malts, sugar, light citrus, and florals. Faint earthy and bready scents after warming a bit. Color is kind of a dirty, reddish copper with a finger of sandy head. Lots of thick, sticky lacing. Tastes rather earthy with a lingernig floral bitterness. Some faint citrus notes in the tail. Not a lot going on, but still rather flavorful. Nice session brew.

coppery colored pour with a whitish head. aromas of chocolate, toasted nuts, toffee/caramel-y malt, something juicy... fruity and a kick of bitter grapefruit. the flavor has a nice hoppy thing going on to dry everything up... notes of cocoa, toffee, orange, spicy hops, slight non resinous pine and a nice bitterness before the dry finish. the medium body feels rich in the mouth yet crisp from the dose of hops. i was told this was a very fresh bottle... 7/4/7/3/15/3.6

12 oz. bottle acquired via trade with tennisjoel. Brownish-orange pour with little to no head. Aroma of caramel, light citrus hops, and pears. Taste is lightly hopped with some malty sweetness. Quite honestly there isn’t much going on with this beer. I initially assumed I had an old bottle but given some of the other ratings this seems to be the norm even when on tap. Just ok.

TAP: red/gold pour, small head. Malt & caramel on the nose. Taste was both sour and bitter.

Nice pour of a ruby red with a touch of gold. Small off white head. Aroma is strange but fascinating. I really couldn’t put my finger on it but it was some combination of vanilla and non sweet caramel and cherry. Flavor is neutral mostly but slightly sweet. Mouthfeel is light and lacking a bite. An alright brew.

Might have gotten an older bottle of this beer. I found the hop profile to be quite stunted, and although I could tell there was a blend of hops in the beer, it felt muddled and lacked the full hop character that I would expect from an American Amber. A beautiful pour though, with nice ruby-garnet notes and dense white head.
