willisread (7331) - Detroit, Michigan, USA - DEC 6, 20172016 bottle picked up at Maryland Farms. Pours a clearish golden brown with a big offwhite, rocky head that lingers. Musty nose, hay, manure, wet corn stalks, mineral and citrus aromas. Pithy and earthy palate. More must and hay. Light sweetness, bitter. Really nice, complex flavored and nuanced saison. Another win from BFB.
MartinT (10697) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 22, 2017My Bottom Line:
Pear esters, bread dough and herbal notes whirl about this traditional Saison’s airy effervescence, leading to a hoppy bitterness made more salient by a bone dry finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A dollop of foam covers the misty straw blond.
-This is as authentic as their Classic Saison.
-Haystack notes are also developed by light oxidation (just like in Saison Dupont).
-There is a lot of yeast at the bottom of this 750ml bottle. Make sure you don’t pour it into your second glass as it will obfuscate the delicate profile at play.
-Could these guys be making the most authentic Saisons this side of the Atlantic?
1-year-old 2016 bottle.
Guruhso (2300) - Grindsted, DENMARK - JUL 28, 2017Bottle. Yeasty. Aroma of esters, cloves, banana, soapy and fruity hops, Hayish malt. Light sour and bitter. Light and watery. A decent one...
Plovmand (12135) - Grindsted, DENMARK - JUL 28, 2017Bottle. It pours hazy golden with a creamy white head. Classic saison aroma. Spicy esters and fruity hops. The flavor is malty and yeasty with citrus and fruity notes. Sweet fruity finish.
Zymurgeist2 (4894) - Redwood City, California, USA - JUN 28, 2017Bottle from K&L in Redwood City. Add notes. Generally enjoyed the fruit on this beer with restrained hops after moderate aging. Hazy yellow with moderate white head.
ehaak26 (837) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAY 20, 2017Bottle from Liquor Barn. Aroma of orange, white pepper, and Belgian yeast. Tons of carbonation. OK, but not great.
Mr.Spooks (4972) - Tennessee, USA - MAY 14, 2017Pretty amazing saison from Blackberry Farm, bright and clean but offset by an unexpectedly fruity complexity, classic saison dry grassiness coupled with a strong undercurrent of orange and mango. Hops add a firm bitterness to the back end, then gains a floral-citric fade hinted with yeast. Absolutely stunning pour, deep gold with a voluminous head and nonstop lacing. Aroma might be the weakest part and even it’s good, grassy and herbal with a mild yeasty core. Texture’s perfect for the style. Best beer I’ve tried from the brewery. Great stuff.
madbeer101 (11906) - Søborg, DENMARK - APR 30, 2017Bottled. Light golden coloured. Unclear. Dense off white head. Aroma. Fruits, yeast, some herbs, citrus, sterin. Flavour. Yeast, light funk, citrus, some herbs and flowers, light sourness. Medium bodied. Ends citric and yeasty with a fruity touch.
Ungstrup (51285) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - APR 29, 2017Bottled. A hazy yellow beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, straw, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, hops, and fruits, leading to a bitter finish.
