Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear dark brown color with a 1/2 finger thick light tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and faint chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt and light chocolate. Not as dry or bitter as I expected. Light to medium body. A pretty good beer.

Opaque near black color with a brown head. Nice stout smell of roasted malts, nutty. Med bodied with a smooth palate. Decent taste of blackened malts with a hint of pit fruit sweetness. Not bad. 111106

Aroma is beyond roasted and smells charred or BURNT almost. Pours black as oil though which is cool. However it is very thin for a Stout. Looks like youre drinking a Cola really. Taste is equally burnt. Not liking it. You know there are certain things that really make a stout and texture is one of them.

Pours opaque, but with little tan head to show for it. Nose is very muted but gives just the slightest hint of roasted molasses malts. Flavor is heavily roasted and very, very smoked. Calms down as it warms and gives a nice, robust, smoky profile. Feel is nice. Well bodied liquid and the carbonation is on a good level too. Smooth. Overall this was a nice surprise. Much more developed than I figured it would be and very much worth trying.

Pours black with almost no head. Has an aroma of chocolate malt. An initial but brief sweet chocolate flavor is finished by a nice roasted bitter finish reminiscent of a stronger dry stout. Very Good.

Oct. 2006 - I have to agree with eaglefan538 that I wouldn’t have pegged this as a dry stout. Pour was dark with nice foamy head and nice lacing. The aroma and flavor was a nice blend of chocolate, roast and coffee. This beer was too chocolatey sweet to be a dry stout, and also had some pine-like hoppiness. I liked it, though. Nice rich creamy mouthfeel. Nice stout.

Did not care for this stout at all. Flat in aroma and flavor, and the mouthfeel and body are very watery.

A very dark pour with this one - brown in nature. Had a bit of the hops I so like, but could have used more. Solid malty taste tries to make up for it and does a decent job. Buying again.
