Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Very thin stout. Little to no body. Not much flavor in their too. An old school brewery that keeps falling short.

Nice cocoa brown head that while not the biggest, was nice and tight and when a tad more was poured it looked like chocolate syrup going across it, leaving a trail. It is dry and crisp for sure, but lacking in extreme depth. I like crawling in the darkness and enjoyed the show, but to rank above other stouts I guess I want some sort of bumps in the dark or ghosts floating in the ether or whatever it is that fine brewers do to make a stout rise above. As it is, this is darn tasty.

Very dark, medium head with lots of lace. Roasted flavor thats not too strong and a bitter ending. It is thin for a stout.

12oz - Aroma is mild roasted chocolate malt, coffee, and cream. Pours black with a big brown head and great lacing. Flavor is also roasty but mild. Palate is thin and watery. This is not an offensive stout, just not that great.

Very dark brown with a loose fat tan head. Coffee, vanilla and a hint of cherry in the aroma. A bit thin in body. Nice flavors of coffee, cocoa, a little leather. Somewhat metallic finish.

Pours a dark brown with a small foamy head that lasts a while and laces a bit. Light aroma of roasted coffee and malt, along with a bit of chocolate. Sweet chocolaty, nutty malt flavor. A bit thin on the palate. Not a bad brew.

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a blackish hue with red around the edges, largely opaque with decent light brown head that sticks around and laces fairly. Aromas are medium, roasted malts and barley, light chocolate and coffee with perhaps a faint note of licorice. Initial is very watery body, light and underflavored. I pick up notes of roast on the backend and aftertaste, but fairly empty up front. The roast has some light sweetness to compliment it, more coffee and roast though severly through balance off kilter. Finish touches with some bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and roast, improving over the body but still fairly empty. Overall, a dissappointing beer in many aspects.

Beer pours very dark brown with a dark tan colored head that is somewhat retained. The aroma is nice and has notes of roasted nuts, milk chocolate. The flavor is quite a bit of coffee and some serious roastiness. Seems kinda thin. Would be a good stout for when you are not looking for too thick of a beer. In the summertime maybe? Pretty tasty.
