COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our flagship Racer 5 IPA was laid down in barrels for two years along with the freshest hops from Yakima, Washington including Mosaic, Citra, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe and Chinook. Additional fermentation with wild yeast and bacteria in the barrels give this ale a slight funk and acidity in addition to its epic hop aroma.

Aroma carries barrel wood and fresh hops. Appearance is a hazed golden color with white head and nice lacing. Flavor has light, mellowed barrel wood character with a touch of booze, a fantastic hop piney-floral, well-balanced flavor. Really a great beer. Note: On tap at World of Beer Denver for GABF week 2015

On tap @ Beer Revolution. This is pretty much everything I don’t like about beer in terms of the deScription of it, but it actually somehow turned out to be okay. Hazed orange beer with a finger of white foam. The earthiness of the wet hops kind of just blends in with the musty and leathery funk of the beer and the barrel. Somewhat damp, though. Good citrus fruits and zest, particularly on the aroma. It does have sort of a grainy and oxidized orange flavor to it that I don’t care for, though. Has a bunch of sour apricot and unripe fruits. It’s an interesting beer, but a small glass was enough for me.

Draft at Beer Baron. It pours a mostly clear light golden orange color with a thick, creamy off white head. The aroma has vanilla, spice, red wine, sour stone fruit, peaches with some sweet and sour and vinous barrel notes. Infinitely complex. The flavor is vinous with huge barrel notes, heavy tannic red wine and big floral hops. Medium tart stone fruit with some phenolic funk mingling with the floral bitterness. Lots of vanilla, wine and floral hops. This one surprised me. Really awesome stuff.

As a fan of all Bear Republic brews, I saw this at my local pub and had to grab a pint. I am not the best at describing flavors that are new to me, but I can say it has a fresh, hoppy, sweet bite to it. Would certainly get it again
