Does have a touch of the steriods as the chocolate does overpower the roast, particularly in the aromas, but this settles down in the mouth as the flavours get progressively drier. Lots of balance here. beerbill (2022), Laurel, New York, USA

After just having the Glissade, I moved on to the porter, and my tastebuds were happily rewarded. Pours a very dark brown, not quite black, with a thin-moderate cream colored head. Very pleasant aroma of coffee and roasted malt. There are stouts that are not this fragrant. The flavor is more dominated by roasted malt with less influence from the coffee, but is still very good. Fairly smooth on the palate with mild-moderate hops bitterness at the finish that grows a bit after the swallow before subsiding. Excellent porter. portableparty (27), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Appearance is very good dark brown in color frothy head which disapates. Taste is great with notes of roasty, smoke, chocolate. Palate is medium, bubbly thin. Overall I really enjoyed this one. Surprised that I hadn’t already rated this as I’ve enjoyed several of these over the years. Poured an attractive dark brown colour with a good sized diminishing tan head. Malt heavy roasty aroma with some dark fruit , chocolateand slight smoke notes. Flavour was reasonably similar with coffee and blackberry notes. Nice bit of hoppage leading to a dryish finish. Solid and tasty stuff.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 1, 2010 pours dark brown with a tall beige head that was thick and frothy. the body is really dark brown but light does get through the body. the aromas are really light and smells like an english porter. it is thin to medium bodied and pretty watery. it tastes like every other porter and sorry to say, but yuengling porter has a lot more flavor then this one. mouthfeel is grainy and it finishes crisp and clean and the aftertaste isnt really that good. a little sad over this one since s/n is so good with other beers. after4ever (3010), Brier, Washington, USA

Gorgeous--picture perfect porter. Roasty, chocolatey nose, very much on the dry side. Creamy medium body, active carb--very full-feeling, but still refreshing, Just right. Chocolate, roast, and a bit of brown sugar on the mid palate. Very mild finish. Good stuff. gam (1181), brisbane, Australia

Has some chocolaty subtle undertones created by the choice dark malts. This classic introduced me to the world of porters.
