3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown, little white head. Coffee aroma, dark chocolate too. Nice balance between roastiness, hoppy bitterness and sweetness. Dry and a little beet sour finish. Could be less carbonated.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Dark ruby pour with a wide head that fades quickly. Adequate lacing. Tastes of bitter chocolate and fig. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Nice beer but doesn’t have the balls I was hoping for. Could drink a few in one setting though.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark brown color - it’s probably the lightest porter I’ve seen in a while. There’s a creamy one-finger head with an off-white shade. Fluffy and thick, it has decent retention and leaves behind good lacing on the glass.
S: The aroma is primarily nutty and lightly roasted, with a subtle backing of piny hops. Though they’re a bit lighter than I’d like, there are chocolate and coffee notes on the nose. There’s even some brown sugar and caramel buried beneath it all. This is a surprisingly deep aroma.
T: It’s opening flavor is hoppy and very typically Sierra Nevada (read: Cascade). The excellent finish helps to calm down some of the hop bitterness, supplanting it with decent notes of roasted nuts and chocolate. The robustness is balanced nicely within the sweetness, even if the portery qualities are a bit downplayed.
M: This beer is almost as crisp as SNPA, with an upsurge of sweetness to help iron out any overt finishing bitterness. While the body is somewhat thin, it’s so drinkable I don’t really care. It’s well carbonated, too.
O: Delicious. It’s not as rich as some porters I’ve had - rather, the easy drinking nature is what gives it its wings. This could make a reliable go-to beer when nothing else is available.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is not too strong, a bit earthy, a bit of mild toast/chocolate (beer was a bit too cold at first, so that might have something to do with it) Appearance is a deep, dark brown, but beer is nice and clear brown/slight ruby when held up to the light. Off-white head lingers for a while, but fades within a few minutes. Taste is solid, pretty rich, but drinkable. Some coffee, but more toast and chocolate. Bitterness hits initially, then the richer flavors come on, but then bitterness lingers a bit in the aftertaste. Upfront bitterness fades as it warms, making the beer’s flavors hit faster and softer. Medium mouthfeel and lingers a bit on the tongue. Overall, a very tasty, very balanced porter.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Chocolate and coffee share the aroma after a totally fluffy pour. Nice balance throughout the experience with bitterness winning out, barely, on the finish. A very solid porter and a long-time favorite. Makes me want to move to Chico, CA -- even if it wasn’t 25 here and 72 there.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from P&M-Getränke. Roasted brown, filtered, with a solid beige head, which lasts pretty long. Sweet, roasted malts, bread and toffee. Smooth, oily mouthfeel, with a subtle freshness, due to the present carbonation. Malt defines this ale, its getting even more present in the end, with an upcoming burned toffee sweetness. Great balance between sweet and roast malt flavors. Subtle coffee notes add a pleasant complexity, which creates a warm, sweet impression on the palate. Taste doesn’t linger too long on the tongue, easy drinkable. Still, this beer leaves me satisfied, with an impression of a very well balanced porter.

Pours dark brown/black with a off white head. The nose is full of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. I can taste the toasted malts, nutty flavors and chocolate here to. Nice porter.
