This is not a bad beer which is a good thing since I bought a six pack. However, it’s definitely not my favorite stout either (I’d have to check the ratings to figure out what that is...). This is also my first rating using the handy-dandy rate sheet that lists all those aromas you can’t quite identify. So...starting with aroma, I find this beer to be mostly on the roasted malt side with definite chocolate, molasses, and a bit of a grainy aroma. I also can detect the light presence of some hops which explains some of the bitterness in the finish. The appearance is very good - nice dark brown color with moderate head of a nice off-white, almost tan color with a milky texture. The head was fairly long lasting but dissipated quickly once I started drinking. Not quite opaque but then again it’s not like looking through a window. The flavor was a bit sweet at first with a bitter, malty finish that has long-lasting after affects. The body is a little light for me especially for stout - usually I prefer more hardy brews. The beer is definitely dry and left me a bit thirsty when I was halfway through. The carbonation is soft and about right but the metallic finish is what really got me. Great beer on the uptake but it’s the going down part that makes me want to make this my last Sierra Nevada Stout of the night.

Dark black color with tan head. Sweet aroma with mellow coffee notes. Taste was mile coffee, very smooth not over the top. Pallet was very smooth low to medium carbonation. Very easy to drink sessionable stout.

Appearance: Black coffee, with garnet fringes. Leaves caramel-colored head that supplies generous lacing to sides of glass. What more can you ask for? Smell: Dark fruit, toasted bread, and black molasses. Taste: Starts off with a roasted malt. Half-way through the quaff, loads of burnt toast and some nutty flavors and earthiness show up. The aftertaste is very roasted nut. Plenty of hop bitterness noted. I didn’t detect any chocolate. Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel. Pretty crisp. Not as "chewy" as I expected. Carbonation is noticeable, but not overly so. Drinkability: A drink to sip and not guzzle. Comments: This is not a beverage that I would want every day. Maybe too much of a burnt taste for me.

Fantastic stout! Sweet malts and coffee come together with the edge going to coffee in flavor.

12 oz. bottle. After having just finished the porter, I was thinking about how good the stout must be if the porter is this good. The answer is, not as good as the porter. Pours black with a thin-moderate tan head. This beer was not as aromatic as I was expecting with mild roasted malt and coffee along with a few chocolate notes. The flavor is again not as forthcoming as I was expecting with mild roasted malt and coffee followed by some mild-moderate hops bitterness at the finish. Not a bad beer, just a bit restrained in my opinion.

12oz Bottle. Pours pitch black with lasting medium tan head that leaves significant lacing. Roasty coffee and chocolate malt and resin hop aroma. Medium sweetness with full body with soft carbonation and a lasting bitter finish.

Dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt aromas and flavors. Poured an opaque black with a sizable tan head that left a little bit of lacing. Slightly bitter finish but the body was not nearly full enough. Overall a very tasty stout that left a little to be desired but it was good nonetheless.

pours dark brown with a tall mocha colored head that was very frothy and slow to fall. the body is black with very little light penetrating on the edges. the aromas are robust and coffee like with notes of burnt sugar, plum, roasted malts and slight bitter hops. it is medium bodied and has a strong roasted coffee flavor with sweet malts balancing it out. its slightly bitter in the end and is pretty well rounded. it finishes crisp and very clean with a decent aftertaste that lasted for a good while...not bad at all.
