lemonlovr (187), Lockport, Illinois, USA Aug 16, 2004 This is not a bad beer which is a good thing since I bought a six pack. However, it’s definitely not my favorite stout either (I’d have to check the ratings to figure out what that is...). This is also my first rating using the handy-dandy rate sheet that lists all those aromas you can’t quite identify. So...starting with aroma, I find this beer to be mostly on the roasted malt side with definite chocolate, molasses, and a bit of a grainy aroma. I also can detect the light presence of some hops which explains some of the bitterness in the finish. The appearance is very good - nice dark brown color with moderate head of a nice off-white, almost tan color with a milky texture. The head was fairly long lasting but dissipated quickly once I started drinking. Not quite opaque but then again it’s not like looking through a window. The flavor was a bit sweet at first with a bitter, malty finish that has long-lasting after affects. The body is a little light for me especially for stout - usually I prefer more hardy brews. The beer is definitely dry and left me a bit thirsty when I was halfway through. The carbonation is soft and about right but the metallic finish is what really got me. Great beer on the uptake but it’s the going down part that makes me want to make this my last Sierra Nevada Stout of the night.
6ROW (253), corpus christi, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2009 dark brown to black pour with a med tan head. aroma and taste of coffee and dark roasted malts, sweeter tan expected. i like it ricke (186), Malme, Sweden Nov 18, 2009 Serving date: 2009-03-23. On-tap att Bishop’s Arms, Malmö. Served in pint glass.
Very dark brown, almost black. 1 finger tan-colored and rather creamy head.
Plenty of dark and roasted malt aromas. Hints of dark fruits. A decent amount of earthy hop aromas as well. Compared to the bottled version it’s slightly restrained. It lacks some bigger and fuller aromas.
Firm semi-sweet malt body, nice roasted flavors. Some dark fruits, dark bread and earthy wood notes. Very pleasant hop flavors, earthy and gently spicy. Mild bitterness, juicy malts and more hops in the finish.
Medium body, off-centered carbonation. Rather smooth, though.
A very good low alcohol stout, but inferior to the bottled version. Compared to the bottled version it has less fruity flavors but interestingly a more pronounced hop character. Most importantly, its body is way lighter.

F: a bit to tame flavor, rosted malt, some fruitiness, and some bitterness cgreb (179), Marburg, Germany Nov 12, 2009 bottle - black beer with a thin beige head. Thin nose. Nice chocolate and some coffee flavour, roasted malt with a moderate bitterness. DJMonarch (6523), Northwich, Cheshire, England Nov 11, 2009 Cask Stillage at the GBBF, Earls Court 04/08/2009
Fruity aroma. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate with a little dryness in a hoppy lasting roast finish.
