2004 GTM. Deep to moderate hoppy aroma. Floral hops. Light amber, orangish brownish. Not much lace. Small, white head. Excellent. Moderate hoppy. Perfect for a pale ale. Needs a little more sweetness.

Festival tap: Pale malts and flowery, grassy hops. Soft body. Not really fair unless you rate this against the other replic ales from the other brewers. They all used the same ingredients.

Draft, poured by Nic. I got a little more information at the brewery, and presumed there’d be more info at http://www.brewersofindianaguild.com/, but nothing there yet. I do know the recipe is for an American Pale Ale, and the Floyds result can’t help but be compared to Alpha King. This one is slightly lower in hops, giving it more room for a spicy/citrus compenent. The malt bill seems to be just a bit darker and richer, too. Slightly ochre color, representative pale ale head, all in all a great summer refresher.
Trouble with these Replic Ale contests is that it’s hard to compare the results unless you’re at a specific event, but if they catch on, maybe there’ll be guest taps at participants’ outlets.

This was an interestering concept. Any member of the Indiana brewers guild at the 9th Annual Indiana Brewers Guild Beer fest on July 31, 2004 could brew a replica ale using the same malts and hops. The differences in the beers would come from the yeast each brewer used, their water, and the process. I didn’t write much down about this, like which malts and hops were used, but it was definately a a decent pale ale, orangish yellow in color with the dominate aroma and flavor being the bitterness of the hops. It was somewhat crisp and a nice refreshing beer for a warm July day, but it didn’t seem to be typical of a Three Floyd’s beer, because they weren’t able to develop much of the recipee.
