| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 4, 2010 Bottle split with maniac. pours a very dark brown with mahogany highlights and long lasting big light brown head that laces quite nicely. Beautiful. Nose is chocolate, roasty, and lightly sweet. Flavor has a huge nuttiness that pervades, but verges on vegetal. Still, this is a fine sessionable porter. English stout has a lot of roasted, taosted notes to be boasted about. That’s the first and last thing to notice about the beer. A nice bitter flavor that is quite enjoyable overall. durhambeer (1337), Durham, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2010 Bottle on the cheap from A Southern Season. Attractively poured into a Rare Vos glass... nearly black with light showing near the top and a yellowish-beige generous head with nice lacing. Nose is hoppy at first,ut also a bit chocolately-roasty, though with a good deal of plastic which doesn’t work out so well. Tastes better, with more of the hops and sweet chocolate coming through. Not bad, but not a stellar beer by any stretch. ksurkin (506), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2009 12oz bottle from total wine in greenville. pours a dark brown with a solid, one-finger, tan head and nice lacing. aroma is nice but slightly green for a porter with notes of earthy, piney hops, bitter chocolate, roasted malts, toffee, and hints of coffee. flavor is quite good with bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, and slight charred wood notes with hints of raisins, toasted nuts, and earthy hops on the finish. palate is medium bodied with lively carbonation and a lingering, roasted malt finish. overall, a solid porter. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 2, 2009 (bottle from ksurkin, thanks!) Pours a dark brown/black with a small light tan head. Aroma is certainly hop forward, with a big dose of piney hops mixed with some roasted malt and dark chocolate. This aroma reminds me a lot of Great Divide Yeti, as it’s very green, and it even has some licorice as well. The flavor is simple with plenty of roasted malt and dark roasted coffee that finishes out with some bitter piney hops, cocoa, and more roasted malt. The mouthfeel is a bit spritzy and thin as well. Overall this is a solid porter. Thanks Ken! holdenn (1478), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 30, 2009 12 oz bottle pours a dark brown black color with a creamy thin tan head. Roasted malts touch of sweetness and a slight phenol note. Burnt and earthy malts that are really charred leaving a bitter burnt wood flavor. Thin body light carbonation. A little heavy handed on the roasted malts, but not bad. Elwood (829), Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Deep cola color with a small, foamy, tan head. The lively head quickly subsides.
Aroma: Roasted malt, a touch of raisin and earth, coffee, and some caramel. Definitely on the robust side, but very nice.
Flavor: Roasted malt sweetness, but not as bitter as the nose makes you think it would be. A touch of earth and wood. There is also a pleasing, slightly smokey back bitterness. Slight nut and raisin notes too. Fairly complex and quite enjoyable.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium-rich, smooth mouthfeel (oatmeal in the grain bill?) and a medium-long, roasty finish.
Overall: A very tasty porter indeed and worth giving a try.
