Commercial Description:
Crack open Yeti Imperial Stout’s sophisticated sibling -- Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. Although these beers come from the same clan, they have entirely different personalities. Aging on a blend of French and toasted oak chips infuses a subtle oak and vanilla character into Yeti’s already intense chocolate, roasted coffee malt flavor and hugely assertive hop profile. Who says you can’t tame a Yeti? 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil: Black pour with a brief brown head. Roasty dark chocolate aroma with earthy and woody notes. The flavor starts with a roasty dark chocolate dominated character with hints of oak and resins. That develops into a sweeter bourbon-like boozyness with a light alcohol burn. Finish is drier with a hint of hops. A decent stout, yet overly praised in my opinion.

Bottled. Black pour with a huge, persistent, dark tan head. Leaves spiders of lacing. This has a roasty, coffee, chocolate, and wood aroma. Definitely smells magnificent. The flavor is more roast and coffee, a bit of licorice, black cherry, lots of wood. Big, smooth, creamy mouthfeel. It feels almost minty and herbal on the finish between the hops and the wood. A very beautiful stout.

From a 24 ounce bottle purchased at "Keller’s IGA - This very black Imperial Stout poured into my "Oktoberfest Zinzinnati" cup very dark, with a dark brown head of low foam and a roasted grains-chocolate-malts aroma. Folks, this is GOOD stuff!

On tap at shallos. Aroma is nothing to get too excited about. Pour the way an imperial should, dark with a deep tan head. Thick and smooth with bitter chocolate and a good deal of oatmeal. A nice offering.

Been looking forward to this one. Bottle: Smell is very hoppy (Amarillo/Chinook hoppy smell), shoe polish, grapfruit, slight hint of roasted ingredients and a bit sour smell. Color of beer is black. Two fingers thick lasting dark beige brown foamy head. Taste is extremely well balanced and very smooth. First thing that comes to mind is that this one does not taste like an avarage (oak aged) Imperial Stout. Very soft palate. Taste is a bit bitter and hoppy, slight hint of wood, red fruit, vanilla, slight hint of coffee, oak and some roasted ingredients. Aftertaste is smooth and a bit bitter with hints of red fruit, coffee, vanilla and oak. Perfect aftertaste that is a treat for the mouth! An amazing beer!

Bottle that I’ve been sitting on for a year or so. This was one of my favorite imperial stouts before I found RB, but I haven’t had one in about two years, so I’m hoping my fond memories hold up. Pours a clear viscous black with a thick mocha head. Big chocolate and dark fruit, rich malt, caramel, roast. Medium bodied, smooth, loads of roast and bitter cocoa. Really tasty. Long warming alcohol, smooth chocolate mousse, bitter cocoa. As tasty as I remember.

Blueberry and dark chocolate nose. Black viscous pour, medium brown head, decent lacing. Charred oak, blackberry, and blueberry flavor, with subtle pine notes. Bark, celery, oak, and pine finish. Immaculate balance. Not quite as good as the chocolate aged version, but still a top tier beer. Absolutely delicious!

Tasted in comparison with the regular yeti. Thick motor oil pour with the same maroon brown head as the regular yeti, body is still dark brown/black. Aroma is great, more complex than the regular yeti with a greater emphasis on the coffee malt element. Some chocolate is also apparent, some slightly smoky woody elements are also apparent. Body is thick and flavor is bitter. The oak is very apparent in the flavor, complements the malt/coffee flavors very well. Almost a smokey campfire-esk flavor. Tastes wonderful. Overall a delicious offering from Great Divide. Oak aging builds upon the complexity of this brew though does at times dominate over the more subtle malt sweetness. After further tasting the oak acidity takes away from the beer, while still tasty, it becomes more difficult to drink. A unique take on the style but perhaps too much with the oaking.
