| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2009 This brew pours a cloudy ruby brown color with a medium and fluffy beige head that recedes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Sugary malt aroma with notes of smoke and vanilla. Medium body with a sweet malt and burnt sugar base and flavors of mild hops, smoke and oak mixed in. The finish is sweet and malty with a charred wood and caramel aftertaste. Interesting Barley Wine overall, yet not as enjoyable as I would have expected from this brewer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Pours a murky copper orange with a thin wispy white head. Aroma of sweet, lightly toasty caramel candy and some lightly earthy piny hops. Body starts fairly full and malty with lots of toasty sweet caramelized sugar and decent grapefruity bittering hoppy balance. A decent barleywine, but the malt profile could show a little more fullness and complexity. jsquire (2159), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Murky red oragne color out of the bottle with only a few brave bubbles making a ring around the glass. Dark sugar and alcohol nose. Lots of toffee and dark caramel sweetness and some honey. Dark pit fruit flavors with a mild smokiness of which I would have like more. Thanks to JCapriotti for the bottle. scraff (1999), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Nose held notes of citrus and rich caramel with an underlying cherry band-aid tone. Heavy dark fruit flavors up front fade into a more intense sweet caramel tone as it warmed. Full bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. Age would do it some wonders. Thanks for sharing Ryan… hopdog (5759), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Courtesy Secretsanta. Pours a cloudy, murky amber color with not much of a head. Smells of sweet malts, molasses, raisins, and bready yeast. The flavor is fairly sweet, good amount of malt, some of that yeastiness is noticeable as well. Pretty standard barley wine flavors, nothing overly exciting or disappointing about this brew. Starting to get the feel that this brewery is solid, yet uses litle imagination. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Bottled. Poured clear garnet with a dusting of white and a loose ring. Aroma found a hefty dose of darker fruits with alcohol accents and smoked peat. Flavor picked up rum-soaked dark fruits, heavy smoked peat (which really made the beer), some herbal notes, tobacco, and faint vanilla. Felt light on the palate at first, but really filled out with alcohol-spiked peaty malts. Left sticky peat, tobacco, and tar on the lips at the finish. Warming. This was a nice brew as it warmed up and I enjoyed the smokiness.
