Commercial Description:
This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

A very nice surprise. Picked this up at the store and liked the fact that it was an oatmeal stout. Definite coffee and chocolate aroma with an overtone of alcohol. It is quite thick, yet the carbonation persists through the thickness. This adversely affects some of the flavor of big brews like this one, although nothing to grip about too much. The finish is much like the aroma, coffee and chocolate up front, alcohol on the back.

Pours dark brown with a dissipating khaki colored head. Aroma has lots going on including oatmeal, black coffee, wonderful roastiness here. The flavor it truly lovely and has many stages. Flavor is initially a bit sweetly malty, there is an interim stage that is just kind of there, but the finish is long and profoundly roasty. Not the greatest Impy stout, but well worth acquiring. Thank you DocLock!!!

12oz. bottle. Solid aroma of dark chocolate, heavy cream, faint toffee, dried flowers and woody smoke, along with some very light spiciness and medicinal alcohol. Solid black color with a fading tan head that rings the glass. Bursting with smooth, semi-sweet chocolate flavor, dark brown sugar, buttery, doughy pastry, finishing with plenty of roasty malts, hazelnut nougat and a mild dose of bitterness, spruce and dark, dried fruits. Lengthy, indulgent chocolate character persists. Smooth, thick and warming on the palate with a nicely full body. Nice balance and flavor development here, this is excellent.

A very black stout with a nice thick tannish brown head. The aroma has a lot of dark chocolates, roasted nuts and alcohol, no coffee as far as i can tell. The body is very full of dark chocolates and is smooth, yet still has some ballz to it. Very nice stout indeed.

Clear black color with a tall dark tan head. Sweet roasted malt with a touch of dark cherries, mild licorice and wintergreen hops. No way this is 10% from the aroma. Smooth and lightly silky feel, perhaps a touch to much zip in the carb area. Sweet roasted malt flavors mingle with light cinnamon, cherries, vanilla and touch of tropical fruit. This is not overly complex, but an extremely easy to drink stout. I feel the alcohol in the head but don’t feel it in the gullet or sense it in the nose or on the palate. A dangerous brew, because if I didn’t know it was 10%, I could sit back and drink a lot of this. Thanks Santa.

Viscous pour of a dark brown liquid reveals a brown-black body topped by a small tan head. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, some roasty, molasses, light cinnamon. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, molasses, some grapefruit, roasty, cinnamon in the finish, faint alcohol. Smooth and creamy (normally redundant, this beer merits the use of both adjectives), full body with light carbonation. Alcohol very well concealed. Truly a fine sipping beer; only thing is, it is way too easy to finish it off quickly.

Wow - this is a whole nother beer compared to their old Fat Dog - a St. Bernard instead of a Pug! Poured very dark - almost black/red; I thought the head was going to be red but it faded to cocoa, excellent lacing. Aroma was huge - coffee, chocolate, vanilla bean. Gigundus roast flavors surrounded with chocolate cream coffee and plum. Palate - this brew’s only downfall - I wish it was thicker - it’s not bad though - very vinous. Another fantastic brew from Stoudts.

Imperial Oatmeal stout. Very dark with a slight brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty with lots of roastiness and chocolate malt. Very oily due to the oatmeal which provides a slick yet smooth mouthfeel. Lots of caramel, roastiness, chocolate, hops, and a hint of tobacco. Great finish.
