Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Bottle. A - Deep, tawny brown. Large foamy off-white head with decent retention and decent lacing left. S - Sweet bready malt and barley, Candied dark fruit and dark sugar. T - Decent amount of sweet caramel malt and barley that mixes with dark fruit (date, plum, prune, cherry). Slight sweet chocolate taste. Alcohol is pretty apparent too, some spice too (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove). Taste somewhat like a cherry cola. M - Medium close to full body with above average carbonation. Really creamy and smooth. D - Probably a little too sweet and too much alcohol to be extremely drinkable. Combined with the ABV, drinkabiltiy isn’t great as far as drinking more than one a night, but would have again. Notes: Would be a great dessert beer, especially on a cold winter night. Fairly sweet and alcoholic, with a good amount of warming.

Pours red/brown with a light brown consistent foam. The aroma has toffee-sweetness, and you fell the alcohol too. Notes of brown sugar and vanilla. The taste has a lot of malty sweetness, that also has notes of toffee. A hoppe ending and a after taste with the bitterness of the hops, but also a note of brown sugar. The aroma is great, but the taste is far too sweet for my taste.

Bottle at Dulle Griet, Gent, Belgium, 7th March 2010 Pours dark reddy brown with an off-white head. This is big on dark sugars, alcohol is warming but otherwise tucked away nicely, soft carbonation, chewy toffee, a big beer but a touch sweet. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bottle. Pours thick with an oak brown color an a half inch of light brown, milky head. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee and alcohol. Mouthful is thick and nutty with lots of robust caramel malt, brown sugar, candied figs and spiced yeast. It has a smooth, warm alcohol finish and a slightly malty aftertaste. Sweet, rich and malty. Love the dragon label straight out of Norse mythology.
