Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Pours a dark ruby-brown with a few fingers of white-tan head. Sweet odor of raisins and caramel malts. Thick, almost syrupy taste to it, really deep and sweet. Fruity and malty, and surprisingly good. I paid too much for this at a bad liquor store out of curiosity, but tasting it I do not feel nearly as ripped off now.

Picked this up on a whim. What a great whim it was. Bold color, aroma, and taste. Immediately went back and bought more.

Just tried this for the first time 2 days ago. Man, do the Belgians know how to make beer. This had a nice, dark color to it with a almost sweet caramel-like aroma. Went down with a bit of a bite, but it was an overall good drinking experience. Great with an amaretto cake.

bottle 750ml: pours with a very lively tingley looking off white head that diminishes quickly that lingers into a thin line above a dark brown body. aroma very nice fruit and sugar aromas a little amount of sour funkiness behind all that is some caramel malt. nice fresh apple scent. flavou ris a bitter start with some caramel malt and an almost rotten fruit taste. not nearly as good tasting as smelling. finia=shes bitter with an aftertaste.

Draft. I did not sense the high alcohol. Sweetness balanced by the complexity of the fruit. Enjoyable. DId not take adequate notes.

Pours a nice head that seems to form mountains and valleys. This stays with you through the serving. Dark and flavorful - almost tempting you for further investigation. Dark caramel and hoppy piney goodness abound. Yum!

This beer pours a nice finger width of head. It’s a nice dark color that looks frothey on the top and inviting. It holds a good lacing and smells like a sweet and hoppy beer. It tastes sweet and hoppy with a wonderful balance of both flavors. It feels like silk and slides down my throat very easily. It’s a very drinkable, an excellent beer.

Fabulous white bottle, with a medieval-looking golden dragon (or is it a dog?) on the label. A big head comes foaming up and then sticks around. Dark brew with a mild, sweet aroma. The flavor is syrupy and malty, with hints of mead and raisins, and the brew is smooth on the palate. Hops and spices are barely noticable, but the 10.5% alchohol level comes thru very clearly. Sad to say, this is not as good as I hoped for. This is a mediocre Belgian hiding behind a cool label and bottle, and at $5 (US) for a 1/3 liter bottle, it was no bargain.
