Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Thanks to Dim for this one My bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a lasting finger worth of head that turned slowly to a thick lace across the glass .The body of the brew was a clear golden copper color The hops aroma was very pronounced you could smell it in the room. Some malt sweet notes as well as other citrus smells Wow very sweet for a DIPA not overtly so but more than I expected, a little alcohol warmth present too you get the pine flavors of the hops as a finish Good body as well as carbonation I’d drink this again. I would love to try it on tap to see if there is any difference to the hop profile. Another solid brew from Stoudts

Bottle acquired via trade. Wow, is this one sweet for the style. I’ve been without a good beer for about a week so I’m not sure if it wreaked havoc on my taste buds but this one seemed sugary. Tons of pineapple, mango, guava, and papaya in this one with layers of honey, simple syrup, and caramel. Nice golden tangerine pour that showed ample carbonation resulting in a creamy 1/2 inch eggshell head. The ABV wasn’t recognizable but the sweetness was overwhelming.

Bottle. Pours coppery orange with a small frothy off-white head. Aromas of citrus (pineapple and orange), pine, and floral hops, with some sweet malt and alcohol present. Flavor is sweet, toffee and caramel, with bitter grassy and pine hops rushing in for a crisp warming finish laden with sweet mango and papaya. Low/medium carbonation, creamy, oily, warming. Creamy, sweet, fruity aftertaste. This is a great beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber/orange color with a slight haze. Beer has a one finger thick, creamy, off white head that recedes leaving a nice coating of lace. Strong, earthy, pine hop aroma with a good whiff of alcohol. Powerful, but not overwhelming. Sturdy, full bodied palate with soft carbonation. The tongue, as well as other senses, are assualted by the powerful hop profile. Flavor is citrus hops with pine resin. Some caramel malt to tone all the hops down a bit. Very nice DIPA.

Draft at Three Penny Taproom - Poured a pretty golden amber in color with a medium off-white head that produced some very nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is strong of pine resin hopiness. Flavor is also very hoppy with pine, but well muted by a fair amount of malt understructure. Alcohol not really apparent at all. Extremely well done... one of the best DIPAs that I have had.

Sampled at the brewery on 2/20/10. Pours solid hazy gold, nice cream colored head. Balanced aroma of caramel with mostly pine and peach aroma. Incredibly well balanced with solid caramel flavors and a big bitter finish. ABV hidden very well.

Bottle - Pours cloudy yellow, low white head, good nose of piney hops. Strong taste of hops and finishes malty, then bitter very late and lingers. For a double IPA, this is well balanced, a good one.

Lately double IPAs have been making me happy and this one here is not an exception. I don’t know what it is about the combination of hops and high alcohol that I like so much... Basically pours a light bronze amber color with a frothy white head. Flowers and hops and flowery hops dominate the aroma. Taste you get the various different hops flavors manifested. Obviously, the flowery hops take center stage, but there are citrus and piny notes in there as well. Bready feel in the back of the beer. Rather hoppy, but doesn’t leave my mouth to dry. Well-balanced overall.
