Dark chestnut brown, tan head, lacy. Huge aromas of molasses, bitter chocolate. Palate is rich rich malt, slightly nutty, slightly smoky. Quite a creamy mouthfeel. Fantastic!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium frothy tan head that stays for a short while and leaves creamy spotty lacing. Dark chocolate and cocoa, dark roasted caramel malt (cookie) and yeast (sweat, barn) aromas. Dark semi-sweet caramel and chocolate malt, nutty medium roasted malt flavor with a touch of hops. Medium bodied and creamy to fizzy, lightly dry palate.

Bottle Dark amber coloured with reddish tints, thin but long lasting beige head; complex aroma: molasses (or liquorice ?) and roasted malts, dried fruit, a bit vinous, too; slightly sweetish flavour, becoming dryer towards the bitter (chocolatey)-malty finish; creamy mouthfeel, quite full bodied :-), but avoids becoming really sweet. Well quaffable, but too much molasses...............

Good size, lasting creamy light brown head, not a lot of lacing. Clear, dark brown color. Aroma is of molasses, roasted grain, mild hints of chocolate . Very light hops, moderately sweet, not much acid, well balanced. A short finish, kind of watery. Flavor dissipates rapidly - a beer to be swallowed, not savored. Medium full bodied, creamy texture, with fizzy carbonation. Goes well with a dark bread. Got this from the monastery.

Clear but densely colored, caramel/red with a huge, spongy tan head with effervescence rising in streams. Insanely sweet-malted aroma was caramel, candy bar & chocolate with slight mustiness. Flavor was sweet and astringent, the alcohol being overdone. It was like sipping a thin whisky, whereas I would have preferred tasting the thick malts that I perceived in the aroma. Finish is earthen with an alcohol gut-burn. This beer starts well, ends disappointingly.

(Bottle 50 cl) 6,5% ABV in my version. Light brown with a rich and frothy head that fades a bit too fast. Very full-bodied and malty with a sweet, lightly caramelish touch. Yet a dry bitterness in the finish making a balanced and harmonious Doppelbock. Good, solid stuff. 220801
