Commercial Description:
Don't let Tripel's light color and delicate aroma fool you, this is one serious beer brewed with maximum effort. First, we introduce freshest barley to crystal filtered water. Second, we add the best hops shipped directly for Europe. Third, our special yeast is the catalyst for fermentation, gobbling sugar and creating alcohol as it works. Some say that the Belgian monks who first brewed this style called it triple to denoted its high alcohol content. Still others believe triple's origins lay in its triple fermentation; twice in the brewery and once in the bottle. Whatever the answer, ours is the Tripel threat.

bottle via DocLock: Golden hue with small head and little lace, some oily cling on the glassware. The aroma has notes of pear, currant, apple, toasted malt, aromatic hops, candi sugar, vinous (white wine) and moderate phenols. The taste starts with a sharp fruit nature on top of a heavy sweet sugary syrupy character. Big old biting bitterness on the finish. There seems to be a lack of depth however on the palate, never meets my expections for the style. The alcohol dominates the flavors too much. The feel is also just average. Maybe some aging would do this beer a world of good. Kudos for trying all those style however Southern Tier, keep it up!

Bottle from a 12 pack sampler. Bright gold body with a slightly off white head. The aroma is like banana nut muffins with some earthy mushrooms behind it. Musky and leathery, this has some cake donut character. There is also a strong note of clove type spice in the finish. Overall, this is fairly thin and a little on the sweet side. Decent, but nothing special.

Plenty of tannins, orange peel and a light spiciness in the malty caramel and toffee heavy aroma. Opaque tan body is topped by a decent though fizzy, white head that recedes to a thin cover. Tannins are rich in the surprisingly sweet flavour along with orange citrus character and a light chalkiness. Bitterness is but an afterthought and is quickly enveloped by the lasting sweet after taste. Alcohol is never apparent. Medium body with moderate carbonation that is lively on the tongue and cheeks. Chalice. Cellar temperature. Bottle (trade, Mar-05). Thanks, DocLock!

Bottle. Pours an orange hazy golden body with a white head. Citrus, lemon grass, wheat and a bread y character. Pear and some light fruity esters with a moderate warming. Not so good.

Poured a clear gold with a small quickly disapearing head.. The aroma was sweet, yeasty and fruity with clove, banana and tangerine. The flavor was sweet and sugary. Tasted like artificial sweetner on the finish. Light bitter and clovey finish. Warming. Medium bodied.

Yeasty aroma but still detect the booze. Orange colour, little rim of head, then lace. Carbonation and alcohol at end, which dries the mouth, and high acidic throughout. Needs food-pizza. Had bottle at Pizza Plant.

Bomber, at least a year old. Poured clear, somewhat pale golden with a short, splotchy cap of white head. The aroma picked up hearty orange peel and peppery esters over a fruity and pale malt base.. some warmth was evident, but it held together nicely. The flavor was a tad more assertive with sweet honey and pale malts (laced with alcohol) at the core.. orange zest showed with spicy esters on the edges, with the orange having a slightly candied appeal.. finished rather sweet and warm. Medium-plus bodied and spicy on the palate.. too sweet for my liking for a tripel, but I cannot deny that it had some tasty moments.

Bottle at home - shared with Morten, David & Mette. Cloudy yellow - white head. Fruity, sweetness, nice hoppy, spicy, peppery, light soapy, syrupy, licorice, light rye, candy, a bit too sweet.
