From Bottle. Rich, dark brown, raisiny colored pour with a tall beige head of cream that quickly diminishes to a thin foam. Aroma is full of licorice and dark fruits, especially prune. Light yeasty Belgian spiciness that is completed by a granny smith apple vodka vinish. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, but plenty rich and flavorful. Raisin nut bread loaded with pecans, light chocolate, and a mild clove spice. The only problem is that the flavors don’t appear until after the initial sensation of Reynold’s aluminum foil disappears. OK overall, but the alcohol prevents this from giving extra complexity a chance to form.

Mar 4, 2010 750 mL bottle. Very little "pop" when opened, although it has been stored properly since I bought it in 2008. Before then, who knows. Hazy, rusty brown with no head. There is a strong, vinuous aroma of alcohol and bruised apple. There is lots of spice in the sweetish flavour, along with the same alcohol and apple cider. Little carbonation left. I probably left this one a little too long.

Feb 27, 2010 750ml bottle. Dark reddish brown, almost black body with a thin beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit and spices. Flavor is sweet malty, caramel, dry fruit, brown sugar, some roast and warming alcohol.

Feb 26, 2010 Murky mud with a thin off-white head and it’s an active sucker. Aroma of cherry, oak, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, fruit peel, prunes and spices. Taste of Unibroue every beer yeast, prunes, brown sugar, alcohol, grapes and spice. Mild dry peppery finish. A few steps down from Edition 2004.

Jan 16, 2010 The Unibroue Rep was in Brian’s Beer Outlet the other day and told me to try this bottle in my collection.Popped like it was Champagne!! Deep,Deep Brown, almost black in color. Strawberry, Raspberry and Sweet Prunes on the nose. Sweet Dark Ripe fruit flavor starts to a slightly dry finish that goes on for about 5 minutes. Goes down sooo smooth!! This ale is aging very well.

Jan 8, 2010 In the bomber bottle. Pours a dark dark purple brown color with a thick beige head. Deep fruity aroma, flavors of dark fruits and raisins. This is remarkably similar to the Trader Joe’s vintage ales. Red cherries and raspberries. Phenomenal. This is good drinking right now.

Dec 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy brune body with a tan head. Sweet with fruit esters, etoh latent esters at that. Some plum, raisin, and banana notes. A strong warming, and similar to many of their others.

Dec 4, 2009 Rating number 2005 - I have been holding on to this one for this number. Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky black-brown with a small khaki head. The aroma was yeasty, woody and sweet with a strong cherry presence. The flavor was sweet, tart and tangy with notes of apple, raisin, cherry, port wine, sugar, rum and tobacco. The typical Unibroue house character permeates the nose and flavor but I am very fond of that element. The beer is wonderfully complex and full. The finish is long with cherry lasting the most. Thick and full bodied. Wonderful.
