Large head of off white over a dark brown body. This doesn’t have the intense hoppy aroma of the regular IPA, being more malty in that respect. Moderately sweet with a lighter hops bitterness than the regular IPA as well. This hits my palate as more of a Strong Ale or possibly a Barleywine than an IIPA, but other than style classification issues, this is a good solid strong beer. cbkschubert (2083), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Well it took about 5 minutes for the head to settle enough to start drinking the beer. Thick lacing. Aroma is light toasted malt and lightly spiced hops. Flavor has that sweet Maris Otter taste. Nicely balanced this the spicy, herbal flavor of the hops. Very smooth. Full body. A very nice beer. radiomgb (2077), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

The aroma was of hops (oranges, lemon zest), caramel malts, slightly sweet. The flavour had tons of hops (pine, oranges), sweet caramel malts, earthy. Wonderfully balalnced mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes with some spice and a lingering hop bitterness. Very nice.

I finally got another bottle of this 2 years after first trying this. It’s exactly as remembered. A fantastic IIPA with wonderful balance. Nøgne Ø is an absolute fantastic brewery.

Pours a dark brown with a moderately large, long-lasting, dense head that left very nice lacing as it receded. Very pleasant fruity aroma with lots of caramel and some alcohol notes as well. The flavor is caramel up front followed with some fruit and a bit of pepper. Bitter finish with a definite warming from the alcohol also present at the finish. Very good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2008 500ml bottle. Nicely hoppy nose, resinous, floral, grassy and citric, combined with a fair amount of darkly toasted malt sweetness and honeyed black bread, perhaps some faint oak as well. Deep mahogany color, bottle-conditioned, with a lasting, fine, ivory head. Flavor begins with a touch of dark roasty malt, turning much hoppier and quite bitter from there with a generous degree of pine, spice and citrus, and finishing with a brief flourish of dark sweetness and malt flavor, mingling with the mighty hop presence and gentle alcohol late. Finely effervescent, sharp and warming on the palate, very full-bodied. An interesting hybrid American-style strong ale, quite nice in fact. altonbrownd (2056), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Sweet up front, then gets very hoppy. Smooth and goes down well. High ABV very well hidden. Finish of malts, raisins and toffee. Lovely. Angeloregon (2047), Portland, Oregon, USA
