Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

This is probably my favoirte of the Stone line. Off white head atop a nice, deep brown body. The aroma of roasted malts and chocolate is wonderful and the taste is even better. Very smooth at first with a nice punch of "Arrogance" at the finish. A wonderful winter brew.

Excellent porter, very rich flavors, nicely balanced, very full-bodied, I think I got full after one bottle (on top of my dinner, as well), great smoky flavors, a hint of some coffee in the aftertaste as well, all around great porter

Re-rate 12/13/2003: This is an extremely well balanced porter. A bit of hoppiness up front, w/ roastiness and malt flavors that follows. The smokey taste is nicely in the background. It poured black with a cream off white head. An excellent beer. A lt/med bodied porter w/ a great taste.

Pours a very dark black. Huge brown head with nicely rounded malty aromas. Definitley lightly smoked when compared to the original, Alaskan. Delicious. Amazing balance. Creamy with lots of burnt toast flavors. I would have to say that this is Stone's most well-crafted brew. I wouldn't change a thing. A treat from start to finish. Better than the 6th anniversary to.

This pours out of the big bottle with a deep ruby color and a thick, creamy tan head. It looked just like the picture, except I’m drinking it out of a Great Lakes glass. The nose is very malty with enough smoke to evoke a honey-baked ham. This is a very smooth drinking beer with strong malt support to the very nice smoke hints. Plenty of hops to balance this beer, with a nice bitter finish. I still think the Alaskan is a better smoke, but this is a damn fine beer that I can buy in Ohio.

22oz bomber obtained at The Lighthouse in Manchester, Maine. Pours a virtually opaque black body with ruby-red highlights around the edges with a good half inch or so of light tan head. Smells roasty and slightly smoky. Tastes very roasty with some caramel malt sweetness, hints of citrus hops in the aftertaste, and undertones of smokiness. Rich full body with very moderate carbonation. This one is definitely a sipper, which is fine since the flavor lingers longer. One of the better porters I’ve had for sure. I’ll be sure to try and pair it with a pulled pork sandwich sometime...

22oz bottle. Dark black center, brown along the edges; off-white head showing large bubble formation and good retention. Light aroma, showing smoke and a hint of citrus. Medium-to-full bodied; emphasis is definitely on the porter end; smokiness is well-integrated with chocolate / roasted malts, hints of vanilla; slightly creamy and beautifully well-balanced. So tasty. Medium finish, slightly dry; vanilla and charred malts.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark-brown/black color with a thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, and smoke. Complex roasted malt flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee and with a nice smokey finish at the end. Balanced mouthfeel makes this a very drinkable, fantastic porter.
