| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2010 Bottle thanks to craftbeerdesign. Thanks again, again. Pours a really dark ruby tinged black with a 1 finger foamy tan head. Coffee is the aroma. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is really coffee - not espresso - but lots of strong coffee. No chocolate. The coffee is so strong it’s like sucking grounds. Sort of backs off and mellows out in the end. This is really a classic coffee stout. Oatmeal? Could be. The burnt malt is almost submerged by the coffee. Really good stuff. garmonbozia (276), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 19, 2010 When I opened its box sent to me from an Umesh Gosai, I found he’d sent me three of this particular beer - and so I took to Terrapin’s Coffee Imperial first and foremost as an undeniable bibliographical session; Watership Down seemed an appropriate title as any to go with such a beer.
My notes.
I apathetically should’ve listened to what Anthony was telling me: "if you don’t like FBS, you won’t like Wake-N-Bake." I got it now.
It pours rurally downtrodden but very pleasingly dark - I thought it’d show some ember highlights or what-it-may, but it was too blackened to tell, in all distinguished honesty. I’m sure it was a tarred muddy color, but at the moment I cant hand anyone clear, accurate documentation of what its appearance was like besides a pitched-blackness; the forth is a good ol’ sport, and just like Palo Santo Maron, the carbonation builds itself up until finally the head appears atop - thin frothy Berliner structure. Creamy.
Smells of rye and hugely-used dark malts, Belgian candi-sugar and light hops. Nice acquired.
However... when I took a sip to a few, I noticed it very much had the essence as well the taste-profile of cookie dough - what’s up with that? It’s probably the oatmeal/oat malt used, but all I could vividly see was this undeniable cookie pan-batter flavor; the Jittery Joe’s coffee beans are high in-command while swallowing as it leaves your palate. Gives off a troubling wine-burn that I noticed almost at once, and the more I drank, the less it actually sunk in. I didn’t enjoy getting hypnotically soused by the 4th sip - and I usually can handle 8% beers. Hmph!
I’m happy I received this, but also all the more I’m happy I gave a few away; I have one left - do you want it?

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 15, 2010 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark black with a one finger chocolate brown head. Chocolatey, coffee, roasted malt aroma. Coffee aroma is strong but actually somewhat overpowered by the roasted chocolate notes. Flavor, however, is like a weak cup of coffee up front, drifting into a very sweet, roasted dark chocolate finish. nuplastikk (1367), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 15, 2010 12oz bottle. Big, gloopy. viscous black. Rusty brown head fades out after a minute, leaving oily traces. Sweet choco-coffee aroma. Smooth and pleasant for an Imperial Stout, could easily be dubbed an Imperial Coffee Porter. The coffee bitterness is more present than the hops. Sweet and chocolaty. Lacks much depth, despite it’s rather smooth enjoyability. Syrupy and sticky. Good, full of flavor, but really lacks a world class body. SuperDave70 (1340), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2010 Dark pour with nearly no head. Coffee comes through in the aroma and flavor, more than anything else. There is a hint of chocolate, but coffee dominates. A nice coffee stout. brewolf (73), Washington, USA

Dark chocolate pour with a crazy mocha head that eventually tempers down to a nice ring of foam. Nose is a blast of quality coffee (not the faux, Sanka pit-trap that some brews fall prey to). Once the powerful coffee aroma is dissected, chocolate cake and sweet cookie dough emerge. The mouthfeel is fantastically smooth, rich, and viscous. Still a hint of alcohol tinge along with the slightly bitter coffee-cacao finish. Glad to have been able to try this one ... quite fun. cfrancis (447), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2010 Got this in a BIF package. Pours black as the night with a brown head. Aroma is coffee and malt. Taste is coffee. It’s almost as if I’m drinking coffee. Unfortunately I’m not that much of a coffee lover.
