Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Bottle. Much better than I expected. A well done imperial stout with all the components you’d expect. A little unbalanced as far as sweetness goes, but solid none the less.

22 oz. bottle, pours deep black with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark, rich roasted malt, cacao and oatmeal. Flavour is unusually sweet for an oatmeal stout, perhaps a tad too sweet, but still bold and complex - dark chocolate and coffee. Most excellent.

Sample thanks to my friend Adil, at Chancey Smith’s in London ON- Very dark opaque black, lets no light in, and pours a creamy and thick mocha froth. I like the aroma here, you can actually smell the oats. Lots of coffee and dark chocolate with pungent hops meet a sort of lactic porridge aroma that is somehow inviting. Tastes of sweet dark chocolate, vanilla, dark rum, some burnt sugar, and a wholesome oatiness that is quite present. Full body, creamy as hell, dangerously drinkable.

(22oz bottle) Purs a pitch-black body with a thin, dissipated beige head. Nose of heavily malted - deep soya sauce, sugar cane and toasted malt. Good.

Pours a dark, dark brown under the slightest hint of carbonation. The nowe is roasty and malty with a hint of burned grain. Mouth feel has a bit of bite and a bit of an alcohol burn, but is smooth enough and a big, fat malt modulated with hops. Initial taste is molasses running quickly to hop bitter, then quickly back to a sugary sweetness. The finish is all about the roasted malts and the roasted coffee finish. This is a truly good beer and will be given a couple of bottles’ space in the cellar.

Draft at Brouwer’s. Black with a small beige head. Aroma is quite nice, roasty and full of chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Flavor was mostly good, but something felt wrong. It hits a lot of good points: more big toasty coffee and chocolate notes, molasses, oats, and raisiny dried fruit characteristics. Has a nice, thick body. There’s a certain quality I can best describe as rancid nuts hiding in it that brings it down a notch for me. It wasn’t enough to ruin it, but it knocked it down a notch. It was subtle enough that I intend to revisit it to make sure it wasn’t a one time issue.

Bottle. Fruit, chocolate and light coffee aroma. Sweet fruit and chocolate body. Warm alcohol and coffee palate. Very nice.

No surprise here, pours a oil black with a thin beige head. The aroma is on the roasty side, but with sweet, maybe lactose sugar sort of notes, chocolate, coffee, alcohol aswell is very prominent but I don’t knock it because I happen to like alcohol. The flavour pretty much delivers what is promised in the aroma, roasty, malty, goodness, little touches of sweetness here and there, some chocolate and coffee dance together for a while before giving way to some delicious notes of licorice which last well into the finish. As the aroma suggests, the alcohol is rather prominent in this beer, causing a bit of a problem with the mouthfeel, and maybe making the licorice finish almost a little salty tasting, but in a strange way, I find it kind of appealing. Probably not going to be everyones favorite Imperial Stout, but I’d certainly drink this anytime I could get it. Cheers!

Lactose smell with a weird sort of sour, sweet note. Taste is sweet and a bit tingly on the tongue with a nice warmth as it goes down. Very flat, absolutely no head when I poured it which is kind of surprising.
